Hi everyone. I am new here. Saw the surgeon today. I got my surgery date for February 16. I have been preparing for this for months....and....now I am nervous. Praying surgery goes smoothly, I am anxious from the urinary catheter to the pain. I have a good pain tolerance but I don't know why I am nervous. I am doing this because I will be 46 yrs old this month, and I want to live a good life. I want to be here for my children and eventually grandchildren. This "does" work for everyone...right? Is it hard to do the liquid diet for so long? Is there a lot of nausea? I just want some input on what to expect. Thank you for your time ♡♡

Everyone is different. I didn't have a catheter. My surgery was easy. No pain, no gas, no nausea, no vomiting, no dizziness, no Constipation no problems at all. I was walking in recovery. Tolerated fluids in the hospital and have not had any problems post-op.

Depending on your surgeons procedure you may not even feel the cath, they put mine in once I was knocked out and took it back out while I was still under, the sleeve works for "most" everyone if you put the work in. I think everyone loses weight initially but you have to be willing to put in some work to keep it going. liquid diet was not hard for me I just stayed extremely focused. I only had nausea when I stood up the First two day and then it went away, everyone is different so I can't say how your exact outcome will be but try not to stress!

Good luck on your journey and congrats on getting your date! It's an amazing experience! Yes, the liquid diet was tough for me. I was basically going through sugar, carb, and caffeine withdraw all at once. But, it's SO worth it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
