rayn0825 2 Posted January 14, 2015 I'm just wondering what all the psych evaluation consist of??
FitnFabfor2014 358 Posted January 14, 2015 My evaluation began with a few general questions, "Why are you doing this?", "What are your goals?" Then my "evaluator", had a lap top and had me answer about 100 questions that tallied up my answers to see how successful I would be after I had this surgery. Then we discussed a few of my answers, and my goals. I was there for about an hour and a half. I've heard there are definitely different requirements of the psychiatric evaluation depending on the psychiatrist. Mine said my results determined I would have a lot of success. I think I agree now, but in the beginning I wasn't so sure ! was really nervous when I got there, but he was great and made me feel really comfortable. He even had a friend's dog in with us (he was dog sitting), so it definitely eased the tension. He asked if I wanted him to put the dog in the other room, but I figured the more attention I gave to the dog, the less attention on me haha.
anaxila 501 Posted January 14, 2015 (edited) Mine was basically an interview to determine if I had a solid understanding of what I was getting into. He wanted to know about my experiences with weight loss in the past, what I understood about possible complications from surgery, what I expected the surgery to do for me, etc. I didn't get a sense that it was a pass/fail exam, just an assessment to see where they'd need to work with me the most, so I was entirely honest about what I did/didn't know and expect. HappiTam 19 Posted January 15, 2015 The questions are very straight forward, just be honest about why surgery is needed and what you expect the outcome to be and acknowledge that you know that the changes that you will be making in your life are understood. It may seem like a ton of questions being asked, but in hindsight they were helpful because I had to think about and verbalize my future.
