Sunny112 0 Posted May 26, 2007 :help:I was just banded this past Thursday, May 24th. All went very well and I feel good for the most part. Just a little bit sore and pretty gassy. However, I can hardly talk. My voice is almost gone and I'm getting squeakier as time goes on. My throat feels a little swollen but does not hurt. Has anyone had this problem? Any advice on how to get my voice back?
neefam 0 Posted May 26, 2007 While unconscious you breath throught a tube placed in your mouth thru your vocal cords and into your trachea...hence the sore throat and squeaky voice is from some possible swelling in the area. it should pass soon. Hope that helps.
kacee 3 Posted May 27, 2007 I was hoarse too for several days. Do like you would do with a cold I would say, warm tea (decaf), stuff like that. I guess we were intubated and the tube is what aggravates the throat and makes you lose your voice. Sometimes you also get a sore throat from it, though I didn't get one. Maybe because the procedure is so fast. It passes. I still had a little bit of a cough up until yesterday (I was banded the 23rd).
RKidder 0 Posted May 27, 2007 I was banded last Wednesday (5/23). My voice was a bit hoarse from the intubation during surgery. It is much better today. Gassy - but no BM x 4 days now. Took a laxative pill this evening. The narcotic pain meds (Oxycodone) slows down your gut and tends to constipate. I am avoiding using any Oxycodone unless I absolutely need to. Any advice on how to get my voice back? Hi Sunny! I too was banded on Thursday and I had no voice either. Now I squeak a little bit but it is definitely getting better. My surgeon said it can take up to a week for it to come back. They have to pass the breathing tube through your vocal cords so sometimes they get swollen and irritated. Be patient, it will come back!
