Hi I am currently 4 1/2 weeks out and have been the same weight for the past 2 weeks. I need ideas on how to break my stall. I have started walking more and usually average 500-700 calories a day with 50-60 grams of Protein a day. I don't eat carbs other than what is in my food naturally but no bread, rice, Pasta, anything like that. I am trying to increase my Water intake but that is easier said than done. Am getting frustrated and scared that this is all I am going to lose. I am 17 kgs down since surgery which I am thankful.

Would love ideas!!

Thanks,

Cherie

I'm in a stall too for a week now. I'm getting about 80 grams Protein, 64 oz Water, and about 800 calories. I'm 11 weeks out. Is this common at 11 weeks post surgery? How can I break it?

Up your calories and carbs for the day. I've heard people swear that works.

YES, Elode is correct! Up your calories for a day or two and then go back to being really good and the stall breaks! Don't worry though, you'll face a few stalls here and there but the weight does continue to go down afterwards. Good Luck!

For me, changing my calories either up or down for a day or two will work. When i was eating around 700 calories, I went up to 1000 for a day and it helped. Now that I'm eating around 1000 most days, if I think I'm getting stuck, I might drop down to 600-700 for a day or two and that does the trick.

Just follow the program and it will work in the long run.

Inadequate Protein intake (yours is on the low side) and dehydration are common causes of stalls. Speak to your nutritionist about upping your daily protein and find a way to drink more Water.

Congratulations! You have reached The Dreaded Week-3 Stall. It's perfectly normal, and just about all of us have suffered through it. You're not crazy, and your doctor didn't screw up. In fact, you might not lose any weight for two weeks or even longer. But don't worry – after that, the weight will start falling off if you stick to your program. And, the inches will continue to come off even while the scale isn't budging. Here's a good article that explains why it happens and why we all have to go through it. Hang in there. Pretty soon it'll be in the rear-view mirror and you'll be dropping weight again!

(Apologies to BP regulars who have seen this repeatedly, but it's a big deal to those who are going through it!)

I'm so glad to read this. I am there. And had a huge emo breakdown.

It definitely gets to you! I am feeling very discouraged. I did not measure myself before this journey and now wish I had to at least have that as encouragement. I have gone down a bra band size so I need to just have faith that something is working somewhere. I would usually turn to food when discouraged but can't so I am just trying to go to the gym and do other things that are not food related to keep my mind off of it.
