Complications

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,I had the sleeve in January 2013 and did great until March 2014 when I got sick with a bug. Since then it's been hell. In and out of hospitals, total of 25 days, gallbladder removed.I throw up everything I eat and drink and now have developed severe pain and blacking out. The other day I was rushed to the hospital, told it was Constipation and sent home. So I just recently met with my GI doc who has schedule a emergency endoscope so determine what's wrong.she has told me its either a few things but she is leading toward my sleeve being bad and may need a revision and or g tube. I really wish would have known all complications because right now I'm barely surviving.

Hi,

Very sorry to hear of your problems. What sort of follow up have you been getting? You are 2 years out and were more than 1 year out at first complication. What sorts of tests were done by what docs?

If you are more descriptive we could maybe help more unless you just need to vent. In that case, go for it.

My daughter has had similar issues. Her surgery was July 2010. She is now on Disability at the age of 25. She had her gallbladder removed after 2 months. She remains with a stricture and has had so many procedures including a stent being placed that she is afraid of any more. We even had to take her to Scripts Medical Hospital in San Diego CA. due to complications from the stent. We have been told by numerous Dr such as gastroenterologist that there is nothing that can be done for her constant vomiting and diarrhea that she will have to live with the rest of her life. I wish she had NEVER had the surgery. It was later revealed that she was never a candidate for the surgery because of a surgery that was done when she was an infant for gastric reflux. We were never told that by the surgeon who performed the procedure and as my daughter suffers each and every day this doctor who should have never did the surgery goes on with his life performing other surgeries such as this.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
