innwtitdtity 57 Posted January 13, 2015 Through pre surgery work up found out I have this. Started 10 day regime of antibiotics. Did this affect anyone? I was told it is very common, many have it and never know it but they always check prior to surgery. I just hope these meds don't make me sick-side affects sound awful! Dabliss111114 180 Posted January 13, 2015 I had it before my surgery too. I have no clue how or when I got it, but I had to do the antibiotics for 2 weeks. My meds were a combination of 4 different things. My surgery was delayed too. They tested me a second time after the treatment to make sure it was gone before they moved forward with my surgery. Fortunately it was gone after the antibiotics. Good luck.
Alfie 58 Posted January 13, 2015 I had it and took the 10 day regiment and had my surgery on December 9. Doing great!!
innwtitdtity 57 Posted January 14, 2015 Thanks everyone, I don't have a date for surgery yet so I am glad my surgeon tested for it early. So far okay on meds -except for the awful taste in my mouth!
RNYDawn 160 Posted October 18, 2015 Sorry to resurrect an old thread but had never heard of this until my blood work came back with positive for this! I think this is a big reason my surgeon's office recommended I have the blood work done as soon as I could! Now we can take care of it (hopefully!) before I even have to submit for approval in January.
vanassa11 4 Posted October 19, 2015 Yes, I found out I had it too. I just completed my 10 days. And was really shocked I had this. I was kinda freaking out, question like where, how, or who.
RNYDawn 160 Posted October 19, 2015 Yes, I found out I had it too. I just completed my 10 days. And was really shocked I had this. I was kinda freaking out, question like where, how, or who. Hi Vanassa! Thank you for telling me. How were the meds? Were they rough on your stomach or appetite? did you have to restrict certain foods or change any dietary habits? I have my endoscopy scheduled for Thursday so I hope I can talk to my surgeon about it then.
vanassa11 4 Posted October 19, 2015 No I didn't have to make any changes, I just made sure i took my meds twice a day. I did notice I felt hunger pains. They weren't bad, I just felt as if i missed a meal and it was time to eat. I think knowing I have and infection in my blood made my brain think all kind of crazy things. I'm on the other side and everything okay.

RNYDawn 160 Posted October 20, 2015 Congrats @@queencity! That's awesome! @@vanassa11 I know, it feels weird knowing I have this bad bacteria in my body! The nurse from my surgeon's office called me today and said she'd let him know that I tested positive so he knows before my endoscopy on Thursday. She said that they don't treat it based on a positive blood test but will do the biopsy (from the endoscopy) and treat based on that. So we'll see... Thanks again everyone! Learningtolive 109 Posted October 21, 2015 Ugh I've had H. pylori since March. This was all pre-bypass decision but still, it made me terribly nauseous and I vomited all the time. H. pylori is in many people's guts but doesn't affect them, then others like me makes them sick, can cause ulcers, and cancer even. I went through several rounds of antibiotics and have an appt with my GI doctor to be sure it's gone Nov. 10th. After bypass H. pylori can really affect the pouch, that's why they test for it on everyone. It can cause ulcerations moreso than a normal stomach.
