jhammer2 8 Posted January 13, 2015 I am interested to know if you had to have a drainage tube put in for your surgery.
maggie0210 117 Posted January 13, 2015 I have not heard of anyone with a drainage tube for weight loss surgery. But I guess that would depend on your case and how the surgery goes. You definiatly get drainage tubes for plastic surgery I'm told.
Gingerisgreat 56 Posted January 13, 2015 I did have a drainage tube for RNY, as did my BFF for her VSG. They only stayed in for the two days that we were in the hospital. I heard that occasionally they will send you home with it if they feel that it is needed however this is very rare. Maybe all surgeons do not use this practice. I did not find the drainage tube to be painful or uncomfortable, or an inconvenience in any way. It was pinned to the inside of my hospital gown to keep it in a proper position and it wasn't much bigger than a tennis ball. The drainage tube was one of the smaller "issues" that comes with weight loss surgery. It takes about 15 seconds for the tube to be removed, and it is not a painful process. It is a strange sensation to say the least however not painful at all. I hope this helps.
Pac-woman 325 Posted January 13, 2015 That is the least of your problems when recuperating. But yes you get one. Mine barely has any leakage. Today is my second day post op.
Djmohr 6,965 Posted January 13, 2015 I had a drainage tube for the two days I was in the hospital. It is nothing to be afraid of at all. It is removed usually before you leave and it does not hurt at all.

Pac-woman 325 Posted January 18, 2015 When the nurse took it out, it hurt like hell. Makes me wonder what the heck did she do? My BF had to hold me down from the pain. He said it looked like they stitched it really tight so it wont move. Somehow I dont by it. 6 days post and the one thing that still hurts is the drain hole. I have to hold my side when i walk. MisforMimi 760 Posted January 18, 2015 It felt like a Sigourney Weaver alien moment for sure!!!
brightlife0305 40 Posted January 18, 2015 I had one with my bypass. It was removed before I left the hospital, 3rd day post op. It was annoying more than anything. The nurse pinned it to the hospital underpants I was wearing, to keep it from pulling down on the incision it came out of.
newlanashegog 61 Posted January 19, 2015 I had mine for what felt like fire
newlanashegog 61 Posted January 19, 2015 Ignore that post! Lol it didn't feel like fire ???? I'm still getting used to posting. But mine was in for like two weeks. I think it depends on your size. I saw a man who had the same procedure with 3. Mine didn't hurt when she took it out. I was too happy to have that wretched thing out of me. You will do just fine. You will safety pin it to your gown and it will be gone before you know it!! Get excited!! This is a pivotal time in your life
Mbstas 57 Posted January 19, 2015 Took mine out in the hospital. Removal was just slightly uncomfortable.
