Dr. Mejias office called THIS morning... ONE WEEK before surgery and said that my portion (the part insurance won't pay) is due before surgery. I had to cancel and they seemed to care less. Just said "ok". The end... my dreams dashed...

I went to see Dr. Mejias after my pre-op because the NICE folks at St. Mary's hospital told me do go ahead with pre-op and then talk to Dr. Mejias the next day (keeping my scheduled appointment) I did. Basically, he said they had just started this "new policy" and unfortunatley I had been caught in the middle and that is why I only got a week's notice that the part insurance didn't pay had to be paid ONE WEEK before surgery. He offered no payment plan. I paid off my gall bladder surgery that I had on July 25th. I got the bill from that surgery early August and paid it off on Oct. 4th.

A friend of mine (who happens to be an attorney) called the office for me and was told by the office manager that " I did not pay my bills".

I walked out.... not because I could not come up with the money but because no one has a right to treat another human being the way I have been treated by Dr. Mejias. I think they call it "God syndrome" when a doctor thinks he can treat people the way Dr. Mejais treated me. He said he would tell patients at the seminar (the one I attended 8 months ago) that they would have to pay the part that insurannce did not pay upfront from now on. Should I attend those seminarts to make sure he does or just hand out flyers before hand. People really need to know that this will happen with them.

I just can't get around the fact that people pick up Hep C when they get tats. I don't know how you can trust them to sterilize like they're supposed to. I am sure there are some luxurious tattoo parlors (relic term) where you feel safe, but I dunno, it scares me. One thing I was told when I got the band is that the band is a prosthesis and if contract certain communicable diseases, like Strep for instance, it can settle in your prosthesis and you can get so sick it can kill you.

I know a very healthy guy who got knee replacement and got Strep and it was the most miserable last 2 months of his life. I won't tell you what all he went through, but it scared the living hell out of me and it was unbelievably sad.

I don't think this is very likely to happen. I mean, if it was, more bandsters would be told that they had to take antibiotics, and I've never heard that before.

Plus, if you make sure that you are going with a reputable tattor parlor, it's not likely to happen. That's another reason why bargain-hunting is bad when it comes to tattoos. One of the recommendations that I've heard reputable tattoo artists say many times is that when you looking for a tattoo artist/parlor, you go and observe and ask questions. They should be willing to explain their methods of cleanliness and show you their equipment. If they aren't, there's a problem.

I pre treat for dental work due to a heart murmur---was never informed of doing so due to the band---glad I was covered!!! I had to ask for different forms of the antibiotics though, had horse pills prior to banding...now use the nastiest liquid imaginable, makes it the worst part of dental work!!!!

Oh Ingy, I feel for your sense of doomedness and if I wasn't an atheist I would be saying to you "Good-bye," and "Hello," and "I'll see ya on the other side of the moon." You see, it is still less than two weeks ago when I myself had major facial surgery. I am still suffering Big Time and I often wonder if I were just too, too vain and too stupid for words when I opted for this surgery. For sure, the surgery was a brute - 9 hours on the operating table - and yet here I am, still alive and energetically cynical.

My hunch is that you are gonna live. I am still living even though I am suffering a big bunch. Ouch! sez Green.:think

Green. Yes I think I will live for a little while yet.

I am having dental implants at the moment and am nearing the end of the treatment. I have paid half of the fee up front so it would be very inconvenient to shuffle off this mortal coil now. When I had the implants into my gum, the dentist found that my bone had shrunk and he had to transfer some bone from another part of my gum so he could fix then in. Anyway I looked like I had gone 10 rounds with Mike Tyson. My face was all bruised, my lips were swollen and my eyes closed up. I looked like a cipmunk if you know what one of those is. I am sure I was not as bad as you are now, but I do have some idea of the pain, so you have my sympathies.

I feel that I need my eyelids lifting because if I raise my eyebrows I can see better, but then I get to thinking that if I had my upper eyes done I would also want the bags under my eyes done, and then if I had that done, the bottom half of my face would need doing; so I am thinking of a full face lift. However I would not have that done until I have lost all my weight, then I would want a Tummy Tuck and everybody seems to have a breast lift as well when they have that. And what about bingo wings on my arms?

After all that, I think would it be worth it as I am 63 in a few days time?

Thanks Green. I've cried until there are no more tears but feel good that I stood up to Dr. Mejias. No matter how badly I wanted the band... it wasn't right to tell me a week before. I had made arrangements to be off work... you guys know what kind of mental (and physical) prep goes in to getting ready for surgery and then to have it pulled a week before but maybe it will change the way he does things and he will hopefully he will give others more than a week to come up with the $.

I have 3 tattoos, from 2 different places. In both places I asked them to show me around first, so that I could see how sterile the place was. The instruments they use on each person were in sterile packages that had to be opened. They wore 2 pairs of sterile gloves, and the places were exceptionally clean. I want another one - if I can find out when Kat Von D is going to be in Dallas - I would love to get a small piece of art that she designed.

That said, I do take antibiotics before going to the dentist...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who was told to take antibiotics pre-dentist. I thought it was just one of those run-of-the-mill instructions that we all got.

ingyrob: They didn't tell us we would die if we got oral surgery - just that we COULD die if we got strep or other such-y like as that crud. Since you haven't posted in a while, I hope that isn't a bad sign.....:paranoid

P.S. And remember, 60 is the new 50 - plenty of time to reap the rewards of plastic surgery! :heh:

BJean I am still here. What a Relief! I have more dental treatment the day after tomorrow, still no antibiotics. And yes I will seriously think of PS. I think I will have to have a thigh lift because I think all the weight I have lost has gone from there. I have a ripple effect LOL. Thanks for your kind words

I was standing in the the checkout day before yesterday when i saw the cover of one of those tabloids, and they had devoted the entire issue to the proposal that ANGELENA JOLIE HAS GAINED TEN LBS!!! they even had before and after shots. In general, I'm tired of people who can't, or don't know how to, make a point. This encompasses SO much. Get to the fsking point! I asked "What time is it?" not "How do I build a clock?"

Someone who wants to tell you something, but also wants the attention of being asked to tell it. I call this person the fisherman. The conversation with them will usually start with something obscure, designed to hook you and make you bite, like (from left field) "Wow, I'm never EVER going to shop at Store again..." This, of course, means you're supposed to ask why.

The fisherman has an alter ego who focuses on need rather than pure attention. I really want to go there for lunch, but I don't have any money with me... (person not quite surreptitiously waits around for an offer, instead of just saying, "Hey, I want to go here but I didn't bring my wallet, can you loan me some money?")

Someone who is seeking a particular kind of validation, and only wants your thoughts/opinions insofar as you can provide that validation. I call this person the seeker. Here's an example:
