Why just egg whites? Most of the nutrients are in the yolk. Eat the egg. 2 large eggs would have given you 12 gms of Protein and you'll stay fuller longer eating the yolks.

not a huge fan of the taste and consistency of the yolks of boiled eggs ... it was easier to roll with the egg whites ... I think I will stay with those for a couple of weeks and then look into trying scrambled eggs ... just can't do a whole boiled egg (I have never liked those :) )

@@trulyamazingtoo - If I can do it as a vegetarian anyone can do it. You can make chicken and beef a million different ways.

Gmacy,

You. Are. Awesome. 60 pounds!

I am also lactose intolerant. I've been drinking my shakes made with Silk soymik or Lactaid milk (when I can find it).

Go you!

the good news is this surgery will force you to be creative - I wasn't a big fan of fish before, but, after 6 weeks of Soup, I now love salmon ... you will find something, and in the end, it will be so worth it - I promise ... you will love it afterwards

Thanks - I am far from awesome, but, you guys give me daily inspiration that makes things so much easier ... I truly believe everyone that goes through this is an incredibly strong person ... it is far from the easy way out.

I thought for sure I would be able to beat the lactose intolerance too by using the soy milk or almond milk, but, my NUT reminded me that many of the Protein shakes are full of lactose Proteins and many pressing bathroom visits later I can attest to that ... now I carry two meds in my pocket to work ...a couple of lactaids to take before my Protein Shakes and a couple of gas-x strips ... makes my day so much more pleasant.

although, today for some reason, I am just kind of nauseous or feel like I have something stuck part way down ... I think this will be a Phenergan night ... anyone else have days like that where your stomach just feels queasy?

@@gmacy Bro..... seriously 4 pounds a week is crazy nuts.... you have had amazing results with your VSG thus far. don't get upset, but those numbers will slow drastically. prepare yourself. looks like you are doing everything your doc would want. cheers!

come on now, that isn't what I wanted to hear :)

I suppose I need to start weighing every 2 weeks as opposed to weekly ....

Have you considered the Isopure RTD Protein or powder? The RTD packs 40 grams of Protein to 20 oz, has 160 calories, zero carbs, and it's lactose & gluten free. The RTD is much tastier than the power.

Thanks - I agree on the RTD ... they cost more to drink, but, they take care of the lactose issue ... my favorite flavors are apple melon and orange ... how about you?

although, I get conflicting reports ... my doc says it is great to get the 40 grams, there is a place that sells a Protein powder you can mix in 4 ounces and get 40 grams ... but, my NUT says the body will only absorb 20 grams in an hour .. just not sure

I've heard other sources say only 10 grams per hour. I try to drink mine slowly over an afternoon while working at my desk. I figure one way or another I'm covered.

Apple melon rocks but I haven't tried orange. I usually grab the alpine punch. Grape taste like smelly feet unless it's really cold. I saw Passion fruit online but haven't found it in any stores.

Wal-Mart & GNC both (anywhere actually) sells one thats a 3.8 oz tube that has 42 grams in it. I can't remember the brand but it was $0.50 at Wal-Mart. I tried the Acai berry flavor, well, I gagged my way through it. It was so concentrated you could taste the Protein and they made the berry flavor so strong to try and cover it, the whole thing was gross. So keep that in mind if you're checking out a 4 ounce mix. It's great in a pinch but I couldn't tolerate it daily.

well, if we are shooting for 100 grams of Protein a day that would be a lot of sipping :) ... aah the humanity ... I will have to try the alpine punch ... I usually order it from Vitamin shoppe in a 12 pack so I may need to go to a store and try the alpine punch ... I have a mango that I am scared to try :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
