Need To Share My Excitement!

Recommended Posts

Hello! My sleeve is scheduled for January 27th! And I just got a letter from my insurance company (fed bcbs) that they approved it! Giant sigh of relief! I hope everyone gets to experience this feeling. Tomorrow I start my pre op diet and I have never been more excited to start a diet! And I never thought I would be saying that! This has been such a long process and I can not believe it's finally coming to fruition! I just needed to share! Good luck to everyone, and hang in there!

Light and Love,

Samantha

So happy for you!! I can honestly say this has been one of the best things to ever happen to me. I am sure you will feel the same. I just wish I had had insurance to help with the cost. I paid it all out of pocket. Oh well I feel better than I have in years. Good luck on your journey :D

Congrats, I actually didn't get my insurance approval until today, even though I'm going in on the 20th for the sleeve. It was a huge relief. Then, moments later, my nerves started churning and I started to freak out. But I think I'm ok, just really feel lost in this adventure. Ready, happy, excited, but lost. Little things, like if I put Isopure Protein into the broths during the clear liquid phase. How to take meds during the first couple days. All stuff like that, that I have the answers to somewhere in my papers are freaking me out.

But I did go and get all ready today, shopping for all the little things, meds, slippers, exercise shoes, and Protein drinks and powders. Just a bunch of the little things so that once I have the surgery I'm all set for my healthier life.

Good luck, I'm sure you will have moments of crazy nerves, but then the excitement takes over. I can't wait.

Congrats! It's such a relief when you get the call that you've been approved! In your mind you're like there's no reason for them to deny me. I meet the BMI requirements, etc, but there's always that thought in the back of your head that they may not

Eli, I know exactly what you mean! I keep trying to plan out what my routine will be. Like when to take what, etc.. I went to costco this week for Protein Shakes and Vitamins and it was totally surreal.

I believe it took a little over 2 weeks. But that included the holidays. So it may even be faster for you. I hope so! Although, it was not as long as I was anticipating, so that was good! And good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
