Green1 16 Posted January 12, 2015 I had the lap band about 13 months or close to a year ago. I had the lap band with plication. I really didn't know it would be this strong. I am pretty young I'm 27 years old and I was obese and I decided to get the lap band. The doctor said that he would recommend plication with the lap band, and so that's what I had done. Basically I lost a lot of weight but I have a really bad problem with depression since getting banded. I feel really really depressed and I don't know what to do ever since I got the surgery. The doctors at the hospital when I came in say that I am losing weight wayyyy too fast. I dont know what to do it's really making me sad as I am a young man and I have had problems with depression before.. Now its even worse. I am getting help for this but I don't really know what to do. I feel very drained during the day and at a loss of energy.

Im currently going through the process of getting it the Lapband myself so I would love to hear from you
B-52 7,113 Posted January 12, 2015 Which Dr.'s say you are loosing too fast??? Those at the Bariatric weight loss center? Or others? The reason I mention this, before WLS I was seeing as many as 5 Dr.'s...only 2 felt is was a good idea to start with. Then, as I was loosing the weight, they had negative comments about this or that.....sounded like my Mother! But now, after I have lost all my excess weight, they can't stop congratulating me...even my cardiologist who felt I did not need to do this, now is trying to take some credit on my success..... BTW, after loosing weight, I don't need to see 5 Dr.'s anymore. As far as depression...being fat, lazy. unhealthy and a social black sheep was the worst frame of mind. Loosing weight was the absolute best, most positive stimulating thing I could ever do for my life! Bottom line, when it came to my weight loss, the ONLY person(s) I listened to was the one who performed my surgery and whose weight loss protocol I followed, every step of the way. amponder 396 Posted January 12, 2015 Depression sucks!! I suffer from clinical depression I have to take my meds, and stay on top of taking care of myself, are you on meds for it, have you thought about a change of meds if you are, or have you considered talking with your Dr. about taking them, that's totally up to you, sometimes counseling can help but with clinical depression you sometimes need more help. Whatever you decide to do, please post when your feeling low. We're here to help.
gowalking 10,790 Posted January 12, 2015 (edited) I don't suffer from clinical depression but a year ago, after losing around 100 lbs. I knew that I should be happy about it and I wasn't. I went into therapy and am still with the therapist as we have of course, uncovered issues that made/make me want to turn to food and are currently working on them in order to give me other ways to cope when things go wrong. You may be feeling some of the same things so talk to your doctor about counseling and pharmaceutical intervention (if needed). Good luck!
