Hello, My name is Karma. I am 44 yrs old and I have just began this wonderful journey. Just had my first appointment this past Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015. Really liked the staff there and the surgeon! I was given all the things I have to do before I can have the surgery. If all goes smoothly, then I should be having my surgery in April... so hopefully, everything goes well! I am super excited to be starting this journey!

My mom, my sister, and my brother in law have all had this surgery with great success, and I can't wait to get mine!

Karma - Welcome to the group and congratulations on starting your new improved life. First off, LOVE your positive attitude. I really think it helps when going thru all of this. There will be things that come up that you'll need to have a good outlook with. Everything can be overcome, you just need to be patient. I'm glad you got a good feel with your surgeons office. I've read many posts here and elsewhere about people who don't like or have problems with their provider. My surgeons office is awesome, I never felt judged or looked down on. Everyone there is supportive and caring.

Now you get to start your work. Get those appt scheduled girl. It's all so exciting and the end result is so great. Ask questions here, there are so many people who have some really thoughtful and helpful advise. The support is amazing. You got this girl. :P

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
