did you tell people?

Recommended Posts

I have decided to tell my husband and I told one friend that I work with. The person that I told at work isn't even someone I have known the longest but she is someone that also struggles with her weight and someone that I find trustful. I don't feel comfortable telling my family really because the person that I am closest to is my grandma who is 87 and she really wouldn't understand. The rest of my family really has no interest anyway. I appreciate hearing everyone's situation, it is so helpful to hear from people who have gone through it or are in a similar situation. I appreciate those that tell everyone and educate others, because I think it really is inspiring and helps others

My husband and I talked about it at length and when we decided to go ahead then I told my sister and my cousin (who is like a sister). Since I had to do the 6 mos of diet visits I did not tell anyone but them. My co-worker and friend had hers done in 2013 and I told her in September I think....My surgery date is Feb 5th and Those are the only ones that still know.

I am really struggling with telling my mom and my aunt because I think they will either worry or talk me out of it.

I guess I really did not want to tell people so early cause I did not want all the questions and judgements. I guess now would be okay since its 2 weeks away :)

I just had a lap band to sleeve revision Jan 13. With my lap band (9 years ago) I told most people who knew me. Later regretted it as I had a lot of problems with the lap band and even tho it may have been my imagination I felt all those eyes on me wondering why I lost weight and regained it. A few would ask and some were sincere and some were just plain nosey.

So this time the only two people know outside of the clinic I went to: my husband and my niece who took care of me the first week.

WHY?

There is plenty of time to tell them later.

I can decide on an individual basis.

It's my business.

When I lose enough to show, I can revisit it.

If they are my best friends family they will understand and care about me no matter what.

I'm 7 days out and no regrets that I didn't tell anyone.

In the end it's an individual choice.

I don't have the desire to tell anyone, but I can't help but think my colleagues will notice at lunchtime?????? Especially the first few weeks / months after surgery???

I've told my mom, boyfriend, 2 of my close friends at work and my bosses. I don't really want to tell a lot of people. Not because I'm ashamed, just because I don't feel like dealing with their opinions. lol

My Mom and I have been talking about this for years. She was against me having it.. then she seen how much I was struggling and at the same time she saw her coworker drop weight and look healthy. my mom is now on board. My husband doesn't want me to have the surgery, but is supporting me. He drove me to my EGD today. My brother knows. I told my Aunt and after her reaction. I will not be telling anyone else until after the surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
