What kind of pain meds?

Recommended Posts

You are assuming that you will need something for pain. I didn't need anything for pain past the actual day of surgery. Surgery was a breeze

I'm praying it works out that way for me as well. I don't like taking medicine and I really prefer not to have narcotics in the house because I have a very clever 3 year old! (He for into my muscle relaxers and freaked ne out because one was missing....I didn't sleep for 2 days). But I want to be as prepared as possible. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

@@laurenella82, that's right. And once you're discharged it's so much harder to resolve medication issues. It's better and smarter to leave the hospital with all the prescriptions you may need. Pain meds, nausea meds, and a PPI are a must, and if you don't need the first two, then don't take them.

I didn't take any pain meds after leaving the hospital. Honestly the only pain I had was the gas that was trapped in my chest and back. I walked and walked and got it moving. Never been so happy to burp in my life. I honestly didn't have any other pain.

Can you take something like Arnica? It comes as a liquid but I prefer the sublingual pellets. I have used that for back pain. I used it for general bruising/pain once when I fell off my horse. It is certainly not in the category of a narcotic but it is fine for low level aches and pains.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
