Zzzombrie 86 Posted January 15, 2015 Hi everyone! I am six days postop. I was sleeved on January 8. The day of my surgery was horrible. I was sick and nauseous all day long. i'm not sure if it was the anesthesia or the pain medicine or both. But I was dry heaving and crying. It wasn't until late that night they got me the right combination of antinausea medicine and pain medicine. Since then things have been pretty good. I've stopped taking the pain medicines although I do have discomfort and pain at times in my stomach near my incision spots. One odd thing that has happened since the beginning. I get this wave across the top of my stomach that's a mix of nausea/Hunger. It passes in about 5 to 10 seconds but it stops me in my tracks. I'm not sure what that is. it has gotten less frequent as the days go on. The first few days I was nowhere close to where I needed to be with Fluid intake. But I've been getting better every day and yesterday I went well beyond what I needed. Protein hasn't been that difficult, surprisingly. I am using GENEPRO unflavored Protein Powder. If you've seen any of my other posts, you know I don't really like it and it doesn't dissolve well. However for 1 tablespoon you get 30 g of protein. So twice a day I suck it up and make it work with the broth or sugar free hot chocolate. I joined a new gym and walked 30 minutes on the treadmill today. I'm waiting for a call back from my doctors office now to switch to phase 2 which would be full liquids. Phase 2 doesn't seem to be that different than phase 1 except I can have pudding watered down with skim milk or applesauce. Anyone have any suggestions for the phase 2 part of the diet? It sounds like your nausea was caused by the anesthesia and one it finally wore off, you felt better. A girl who had surgery the same day as me had the same problem. Everyone reacts differently. I couldn't get out of bed without my blood pressure dropping rapidly. That was horrible! It took me nearly 12 hours to start feeling right. My surgery was 1/7. I'm on full liquids but haven't had much luck with protein. Just can't get more than half a serving down and that still takes me an hour. Haven't started walking yet because of residual pain. Good luck!
Squeak1867 32 Posted January 15, 2015 Surgery was yesterday, the pain from my incision was excruciating, I slept all day. Today I'm feeling better, no gas pains just achy around major incision, waiting to start liquid diet? ???
Holly-wood 12 Posted January 15, 2015 I am now on day 6 post op...it seems like as the swelling and then gas go away, my lower left stomach(by incisions) is hurting. Almost like my insides are just rolling around in there and they don't like it. I'm thinking about getting an abdominal binder. Thoughts anyone?
YourFriendJess 34 Posted January 15, 2015 I was sleeved 1/5... so today is post op day 10. I have had no pain, nausea, or gas issues. I walk a lot. I am no way near getting in my Protein and Fluid requirements..... average 15-27 grams of Protein a day from greek yogurt and Protein shake and about 20 oz of Water with crystal light. I have no hunger but do feel thirsty from time to time. I only have taken my pain med at bedtime on occasion because I sleep on my sides. I am so ready for anything other than yogurt and popsicles and broth. May try Tomato Soup today. Hope everyone is doing well! I check in with the surgeon for the first time next Wed. Anxious to see how much I have lost! Jessica

Cyr 16 Posted January 16, 2015 Well said Thanks!!!! And probably retaining lots of Water since I was pumped with IV fluids and potassium for 4 days and no BM yet:/ suggestions .
ms_ladybug 24 Posted January 16, 2015 (edited) Narcotic meds in any form will slow down the whole BM process, it will happen probably after you start reducing your pain meds (did for me) Edited January 16, 2015 by ms_ladybug
