Lindsey Skinner Abbott 97 Posted January 10, 2015 I am scheduled to have surgery in February. I always sleep on my side. For those of you who have had surgery and are side sleepers....do you think a body pillow would help with sleeping? I hate sleeping on my back! I have thought about sleeping in the recliner but not thrilled about it.
CountryGirl5584 115 Posted January 10, 2015 I feel the same way, but I'm a stomach sleeper so it'll be a big adjustment for a while. I am curious to know if a body pillow will help with side sleepers though
allyray 108 Posted January 10, 2015 I really never thought about that either!! I always sleep on my right side. I'll have to ask the team that when I see them next.
Pac-woman 325 Posted January 10, 2015 Body pillows are the best with or without surgery!
downsizingdiva 459 Posted January 10, 2015 I just started sleeping in my stomach again after like 15 years, when I was pregnant. But I do still sleep on my side too and I'm going to get a body pillow as soon add I get a chance. I think it will help alot.
Elode 8,093 Posted January 10, 2015 @@Lindsey Skinner Abbott I used a pillow under my belly, behind my back and one between my knees.
JaneJaneDoe 81 Posted January 10, 2015 (edited) I was able to sleep on my side at day 4 post-op. I would sleep with my binder/girdle on (they gave me one in the hospital... tight Velcro girdle thing). It really helped give support to the incision sites. I wore it about 80% of the time for my first week post-op. And YES, I think a body pillow would really help too! I'm 10 days post-op. Down from 188lbs to 177.2 this morning (5'4"). Absolutely zero regrets! Edited January 10, 2015 by JaneJaneDoe
MamyBeth 27 Posted January 10, 2015 I was a stomach sleeper until this surgery (12/29/14). I did sleep in a recliner the first 3 nights, but as soon as I got in my bed, I was able to lay on my side. My long pillow has definitely helped!
Cody's mom 247 Posted January 10, 2015 @@Lindsey Skinner Abbott, I'm a side sleeper and never had a problem, I just used a regular pillow as that's all I ever use.
joatsaint 2,814 Posted January 10, 2015 I am a lifelong side sleeper and for 3 weeks or so after, I could not comfortably sleep on either side. I'd feel an uncomfortable "pulling" sensation in my stomach. My solution was to sleep propped up, on my back, like in a hospital bed. I rolled up a comforter like a log and put it against my headboard. That provided enough of an angle for me to sleep comfortably. Sometime during that 3rd week, the pulling sensation went away and I resumed sleeping on my side. Now the only problem I have side-sleeping is having to keep some comforter between my knees - I lost all the fat in my legs and know my knees hurt when they touch. I rank that as one of my top 10 NSV's!!!! So you get to look forward to THAT! I am scheduled to have surgery in February. I always sleep on my side. VGB 130 Posted January 10, 2015 I have my surgery in February also. I hope this helps I had a hysterectomy and used a body pillow when I got home from the hospital because I am a side sleeper, too! I am going to use the body pillow after this surgery! Good luck! #february9th
Kindle 8,667 Posted January 10, 2015 I am a side and stomach sleeper. I could sleep on either side without discomfort from day 1. No body pillow needed. But like everything else, we all recover differently. It was about 2 weeks before I could sleep on my stomach because I felt so bloated.
