Surgery date without approval

Recommended Posts

I have read on here so many people have their surgery date without insurance approval. I called my surgeons office today and asked if they would schedule me and they said that was impossible. My last appointment with my PCP is January 26th and I will receive my last 6 months office visits as well as my letter of medical necessity which I will promptly deliver to my surgeons office. The insurance company will have 2 weeks to approve or deny and then I will have surgery in 2-3 weeks. I am very anxious and nervous about insurance approval! This process is taking forever!!!

I didn't get my date until after approval either.

I had my approval about 3 quarters of the way through all the pre-op testing so I got my surgery date about a month before. I was given a date in August and didn't have surgery until September. I still had to complete the sleep study, Ultrasound for my legs/IVCF filter and nutrition class.

I started my journey in July of 2014, and within a week I had a tentative surgery date. My insurance company required my surgeon's office to give an estimated date when they planned to do the surgery. My actual surgery date wound up being 4 days before the original estimated date.

I was under the impression that all insurance companies required a tentative date, but I guess I was wrong.

I think all offices and insurers have different approaches. It's pretty complex--even at one surgeon's office they have so many different protocols to follow for different insurers. I wouldn't sweat it--they WANT to get you scheduled and approved. It's in their best interest! So stay on them, but be optimistic. :)
