greatestnameever 49 Posted January 10, 2015 I got like a million blood tests done in prep for my surgery (1/26), and they said my PT was normal but that my PTT was elevated and it might have an effect on my surgery date. Apparently it just means I might clot more. The doctor says it might be a lab error so I'm gonna get the test rerun. Anyone else have this problem?

I hope is nothing and they can do the surgery. RNsleever715 117 Posted June 22, 2015 (edited) The PTT is a test that measures how long it takes your blood to clot. If it is high, that means it takes your blood longer than normal to clot, which puts you at risk for bleeding. There are other tests they can (and should) perform if your PTT is elevated and you aren't on medication that would cause it. RNsleever715 117 Posted June 22, 2015 How high is your PTT? I don't want to alarm you but they should definitely address this prior to surgery.

Jorge Fraga 1 Posted June 22, 2015 I really hope that they do not cancel the surgery for this......although I do not know how serious could this ptt really be.
RNsleever715 117 Posted June 23, 2015 Did you have it rechecked? There are certain meds that can cause it to be elevated.
