Horrible Doctor Appt.

Recommended Posts

Ok went to dr yesterday for 8 month appt. I have lost 118 lbs and really expected him to be like you have done great. Instead I get "you aren't eating enough" and "you probably have lost all you can without plastics". What!!!! I weigh 171 and am 5'5". No way am I done losing weight. I eat 800-1000 calories a day. About 60-80 grams Protein and 50 or less carbs. I track food most days of the week and I cook and eat out rarely. Dr said "all sleevers" overestimate what they eat.

I'm 5'5 and my Drs goal for me is 150. It sounds to me like you are doing great. I would think your Dr would be pleased. I only had surgery 12/29/2014 so I'm still really new.

I find this very curious! Have you gone into a stall? If so, how long of a stall? If you are still losing, then I can't figure out his logic. Maybe he was having a bad day and not really paying attention to you. I have had that with doctors in the past, hope to never again! Did he give you a time frame or suggest any other solutions? Do YOU feel you need plastics? Do you think he is just finding another way to make $$$ off you? All reasonable questions that need answers. Sounds like YOU have it figured out! Good luck to you, and let us know what happens!

I haven't hit a stall since about 2 weeks out of surgery. I have slowed the loss some but lost 10 lbs and 7 inches in December. I don't plan on slowing down. Do I need plastics. Yea probably but wouldn't do until I've lost all I can loose. A lady was at dr office in front of me yesterday and was telling the receptionist she had plastics on lower body 3 wks ago. She then said I had a lot of skin I weighed 365 when I had surgery and I lost 125 lbs. I was thinking why at 245 would you have plastics??

Everything I have read and according to my surgeon, you are supposed to wait at least a year after you hit your goal to have plastics.

@@Lacowgirl72, I don't know about that specific situation but I think when people are extremely obese, they can lose even 200 lbs, still be morbidly obese, and have a massive amount of skin that is very problematic. Sometimes they'll have skin removal surgery (which really is plastic surgery) to remove lymph edema masses and mounds of excess skin.

Take it with a large glass of Water and move on. At t his point, you know your body and program better than he does. Congratulations on the hard work and great results.

They didnt take any blood or run labs. My bariatric doctor hasnt ran any blood work since pre-op. They gave me labs they want done and sent to them for my year check up. Luckily I have a great primary care dr and we have monitored things and other than my Vit D being a little low all labs have been great. I think my surgeon is a great surgeon and has a very very low complication rate and I am thankful for that but the follow up stinks!

You have a very strange doctor. His evaluation and advice goes counter to everything I have read and/or heard. I like the advice someone else said - you know your body better than anyone - or words to that effect. He may be a fabulous surgeon and lose focus afterward. No idea. Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
