I haven't had my first appointment yet but am confident I will qualify and insurance will approve. What is a NUT?

You will see most on here use NUT as short for nutritionist. I just started my appointments on 8/21, had my surgeon consult, psych testing, 1st nutrition visit and this Friday I meet with a medical weightloss specialist. After that I have 2 follow ups 9/29 and 10/30 with my nutritionist. After which she said they will start the insurance submission. And then it's the waiting and hoping/praying game. Let me know how your appointments go, nice to have someone going through same medical facility, perhaps we can share our experiences and make sure we are getting the same advice, information

Definitely we should do that!

What insurance do you have?

Is the supervised diet required by the clinic or by your insurance?

Aetna. Was told my insurance requires everything within 90 days or else I have to do a 6 month program. Hoping we can do the 90 day, she seems like a good advocate for me so I feel hopeful, rest is up to me to get some pre-op weight off.

I am also in the Cleveland, Ohio area and will have surgery through The Cleveland Clinic. I have just started the consults, and have had one visit with NUT so far. I have another NUT visit this month as well as meeting the Nurse Practitioner this month. My insurance, BC/BS requires 6 visits with NUT, and you can only do one per month. That part stinks. I was rather hoping this would happen a bit quicker, but I'll follow the rules.

If anyone going through the clinic, who is your surgeon?

Melissa1987, I'm nervous and excited for you! Eek! Just think, you will already be down weight-wise by Christmas! I was told probably in March, 2016. I'm having a heck of a time trying to get any weight off. Right now I have a terrible upper respiratory infection and it is causing my blood sugar numbers to be very high. Therefore I have to use more insulin to even get to some decent area with them, and that just causes weight gain! The madness is never-ending!

How are you doing on the complete Protein shake diet prior to the surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
