So I'm 3months post-op VSG and for the past 2months I've been throwing up after taking my Vitamins (sometimes I keep them down but other days I don't) And recently I've been experiencing super dry skin (even on the tips of my fingers), really really itchy skin, lethargic, loss off appetite (even more so) and stomach pains. I was looking it up and most answers lead to either Gallbladder issues or Vitamin Deficiency, I just wondered if anyone else has gone through this or have any idea what It could be?

I'm rather worried so I'm thinking off getting checked out by my doctor on Monday but wasn't sure If I should go to my local hospital doctor? Really need advice because I'm just sitting here freaking myself out. Thank you in advance.

The only advice I have is to not let problems linger for 2 months. The Vitamins are essential for your health (as I'm sure you know) and if you can't tolerate them, an alternative needs to be found. There are different view points on whether gummy vitamins are suitable, but if that's all you can tolerate, it would be better than nothing - especially if what you're taking is inducing vomiting. Good luck; I'm sorry you're having a rough time.

I recently found a bariatric Vitamin and supplement powder at my local nutrition store. Its called BariLife. It's one small scoop a day and gives you everything you need. I put it into my 4oz of Protein Drink and just toss it back as fast as I can. I was having a hard time getting all the pills I needed down so this has been a life saver!

Hope you feel better soon!

Do you have thyroid issues? I have a slow thyroid. About a 11/2 yrs ago I started itching and my skin was practically peeling it was so dry. I was so tired I could hardly get out of bed and I had no appetite. My family doc put me on a steroid thinking the itching blotchy skin looked like a severe hive issue....it didn't help and the steroid just made me eat uncontrollably. After about 3 mths of seeing him and the local urgent care 3 times, I finally went to a dermatologist who said it looked like a thyroid issue. I went to an endocrinologist and was put on synthroid. I have been 100% better ever since!

See your doctor!

Oh....and the above response mentioned Gummy Vitamins...I take them and have no issues and my blood work is on target. I just double the dose...one dose in the morning and one in the evening.

Best of luck to you! Take care of yourself!

Thanks for the tip about the powder vitamins; I'm going to check that out. Are your Vitamin panels / blood work normal, and what does it taste like? Cost?

Definitely call you doctor. You may need to have your levels checked a little early. Secondly are you taking your Vitamins with food? My nutritionist does feel that gummies aren't complete but there should be alternative forms you can take whether it be liquid or chewable.< /p>

The BariLife powder cost around $45 but it will last 60 days. I don't really know how it tastes on it's own bc each time I've used it I mix it with my chocolate Protein Powder. You can put it in any liquid, but you have to drink it fast bc the Iron will all settle in the bottom if it sits.

Awesome, thanks a bunch. Heading to the health food store tomorrow to check it out. I'm willing to explore every viable, healthy option to eliminate compliance issues after surgery. The more options the better.

It does sound like a thyroid issue. I have hypothyroidism, dry skin-yup. itchy - yup. lethargic - yup. Hair loss - BIG TIME YUP!!!!! (I know you didn't mention hair loss, but it is a big symptom). Synthroid has solved my issues, no problem with the once in the a.m. tiny pill. Oh, and weight gain was another BIG YUP. I've HAD IT SINCE 1995. Just get checked, most people who have it don't know it because the symptoms creep up so quietly. And a lot of people have it. Good luck and feel better soon!

Do you have to take calcium citrate?

Go to your doctor. Too many symptoms to know if they are related or not. I had chronic dry skin because I was eating so low fat early on. Solutions could be simple- I take fish oil or the problem could be more serious like some of the maladies already mentioned. Keep us posted on what your doctor says. Feel better soon.

I think the calcium citrate is in the BariLife as well. The nutritionist told me to take BariLife along with my weekly B12 spray and thats all I would need!

Get bloodwork done ASAP. I get a CBC, metabolic panel, lipids, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, folate, and zinc done regularly. I've had thyroid checked in the past as well. Don't let things like this linger. Vitamin deficiencies are much harder to correct the longer you have them. And thyroid issues can affect your entire endocrine system which is VERY hard to straighten out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
