Anyone been to Dr. Taesun Moon, Horseheads, NY?

Recommended Posts

I will be going for my first visit with Dr. Moon on June 7th. He is in an office with 2 other physicians. Dr. McKane and Dr. Cole. My daughter had the gastric bypass surgery by Dr. McKane a couple of years ago. I'm trying for the lapband surgery. Has anyone been to Dr. Moon and can you tell me a little about him?? Thanks! Dianne W.:help:

Hi Dianne! I am also considering Dr. Moon. How do you feel about him now? I wish this thread had gotten more comments... :)

It's so good to hear from someone considering the same doc! Yeah! I went for my visit with Colleen, nutricioniist (sp?) and then with the psychologist, I can't remember her name though. I have my physical this coming Tuesday. I guess they'll submit to my insurance company from there. Have you seen Dr. Moon yet? I only met him once, for my initial visit. I liked him. My daughter had the gastric bypass 2 years ago this past April. She had Dr. McKane. Dr. Moon is a specialist with the laproscopic procedure. Dr. McKane did my daughters surgery "open". She had a long recooperation period.

Where do you live? Elmira? I live in Newfield, close to Ithaca.

Thanks for posting Amaara and I hope that we will be able to stay in touch. Dianne

Guest Joan C

I'm haviing Dr. Moon do my surgery. I was really impressed with him. Did any of you end up having him do your surgery? If so, could you tell me how it went? I'm in Syracuse (medicare rules--nobody here has the medicare certification yet) so I don't even know what the hospital is like. I would be really grateful if I could talk to someone whose been through it already so I'll know more about what to expect. I'm expecting to have my surgery in March or April.

Thanks,

Joan

Hi Joan, I had my surgery November 5th. I had Dr. Moon. The surgery went fine except that he "nicked" my spleen and had to put a couple of stitches in it. I was in the hospital for 4 days. It was a slow go for me. I don't know if it was my age (50) or just that I just had a slow go at it. I couldn't lie flat in my bed for a week after. I had to sleep sitting up on the couch. That is expected though, the sleeping in a recliner or any other comfortable position you can fine. :-)

I just now started losing some weight. I wasn't really following the program for the first month and a half and didn't lose anything. I've had 2 fills since then. I now have 5.5cc in a 10cc band. It has given me restriction. I lost 8 pounds last week (mostly Fluid I'm sure) and 2 pounds this past week. So, I'm starting to see results. I'm now following what Colleen has told me to do and keeping a journal of what I eat. Makes you more consious (sp?) of what you're doing. Anyway, I wish you well with your surgery and you will go through all of the feelings as the time approches. Scared, excited, nervous, can't wait, anxious and all the other normal fears. Don't worry, go in with a possitive attitude and a determination to make this thing work and you'll be fine. Just like me! :-) I had all the above emotions too and almost cancelled, but am glad I didn't. So far that is. haha

Take care.

Blessings,

Dianne

I have my first appt with Dr. Moon in March. How long does it usually take before you actually get the surgery?

It's all according to your current weight, insurance coverage and so on. You'll have to see the nutricionist (Colleen) and the psychologist, I don't know her name though, I only saw her once. I think my first visit was in May and had the surgery in November. If you have to lose allot of weight I think he has you lose some before surgery.

Where do you live? Near Elmira? I live in Newfield. Good luck to you smd.

Dianne

I weigh 260 now... I'm still on the fence between the lap-band and the RNY. The decision is ultimately up to him, correct? I meet with him in March and getting married in November.. so I guess my ultimate goal was to have it done a month or 2 before the wedding.. so I can be on my way to a better and new me.

Thanks so much for getting back to me. I have been doing so much research on everything I think I dream of what the new me could be every night. I live in Almond... Near Hornell...

The decision is not up to Dr. Moon. It is totally your decision. You should talk with the counselor about it though. You should be sure which one is best for you. You have to remember that with the RNY you should not get pregnant for at least 2 years after the surgery either, if you are planning on having any children right away. I see that you are 34 and maybe would be thinking about that too?

Sorry about not replying sooner but I was out of the office yesterday all day.

I hope that you can make the right decision for yourself and that it will work wonderfully for you.

ps...congratulations on your upcoming marriage!! November what? I was banded this past November 5th. :-) Take care smd... Dianne

Thanks for getting back to me... This will be my 2nd marriage and both of us already have kids, so there are no plans of additional kids. We love the ones we have. The whole idea of surgery is so exciting. I love to play soccer, snow shoe and bike ride... I can't wait to have a smaller waistline to carry around when doing all of these things!!!! Thanks again for all the answers, and I will be sure to keep in touch... It seems like it is taking forever for the 1st appt. day to arrive.

The wedding date is 11/08/08....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
