I was sleeved on December 26. 20 pounds down so far. My stomach constantly hurts and I can't tell if it's hunger pains, nausea, gas or just normal aches and pains from the surgery. I'm supposed to be starting soft foods but I'm too scared it will upset my stomach. Whenever I eat or drink I get bad hiccups and they're very painful. Then get like a gargling feeling in my stomach. It almost feels like when things go down they get stuck in the top of my sleeve. Is what I'm feeling normal?

You're still eating and drinking too fast. Those are all symptoms of eating faster than your new tummy is ready to handle. When they tell us to eat slow, they mean sloooooooow. It also sounds like you may have some acid or gas going on. You can ask your doctor for a script for omeprazole or pick up some over the counter. Some posters report liking the gas X strips as well. You can also try downloading that Eat Slower app many have found helpful. My personal rule of thumb was take a bit or take a tiny sip. Wait 2 minutes. Take another. Wait 2 minutes, and so on. Yes it takes forever to eat this way, but you won't get those awful hiccups, or gurgling, or that stuck feeling.

You should be coming up on a 2 week f/u. Make sure to mention your concerns to the nutritionist.

Thank you! I feel like I'm eating slowly. It takes me 20-30 minutes to eat a yogurt but maybe I am still eating too quickly. I have been using the gas-x strips but I may need something stronger. Recently bought Zantac for the acid reflux. That didn't come on until two days ago. Water seems to make it feel worse than anything. I had a one week f/u then have another in three weeks.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
