I'm coming up on 4 weeks after my surgery, and been stalled out for over a week (and showing a slight gain) and I'm so happy to read this! I knew it was a stall, but it is so discouraging to be trying to do everything (eat Protein, get your Water, exercise) and see the scale just sit there or go the wrong way - even if you know the reason for it, it still blows.

That article on the stall was fabulous. I needed to read this thread and I haven't stalled yet. It's as though MY old mind says " i've undergone the surgery, I've given up over eating , eating everything I want, when I want, and now I have to pay attention to every sip of Water and gram of Protein. SO I DESRVE to consistently loose weight".

How ridiculous is my thought process? Almost too embarrassing to even admit to it.

I hope if you are still in a stall you can give yourself a break and let your body find it's equilibrium. We are all in this together.

One week stall?! I've been in a month stall! At first I was furious, but then it turned into a long-running joke for me as the inches came off and my gut started to vanish.

My husband says the stall is because I save string and rubber bands, so why not this too?

Oh i so know what you are going through. I hit a 3 week stall at 2 weeks post op. This is very common. I am exactly 3 months post op and have lost 55 pounds. I have trouble getting all of my Protein and Water in. My skin is dry, my hair is coming out and i am having trouble with Constipation. But with all of that being said, 55 pounds is amazing in 3 months. I promise you it will get better. I think once your constipation is resolved, a lot of the other issues you mentioned will resolve as well. Drink 1 capful of Miralax daily in 8 ounces of Fluid. Your constipation will improve, your stall will break and your tummy will allow you to eat and drink what you need to to meet your protein and water goals. Smile, it gets better, I promise! I know from experience. Smile!!!

I'm 8 months out and still suffer from serious Constipation. I've accepted it as a part of life. I tried many of the suggestions previously mentioned and they didn't work well for me. What did work is a tea that you can buy called "smooth move." I drink it every other evening before I go to bed and the issue is solved. It is frustrating because it certainly does affect the scales. It does get better though , I promise.

Stick to your plan, and I don't know what it is about the third week, but it passes. But ya gotta stick to it with no deviations. Good luck and congrats on making a wonderful decision to invest in yourself via your sleeve :)

Metamucil doesn't work if you're not getting enough Water.. it will bind you worse.

I swear by 3 days of stool softener (Sodium docusate) twice a day, followed by senekot one day... but Milk of Mag, Miralax, Mag Citrate (in the clear glass bottle)... don't require 'adequate' Fluid intake to get things moving, all of the Fiber supplements do.

Good luck on the scale moving! Mine budged down into new territory this morning, and I'm celebrating with a bowl of stewed prunes!

I definitely recommend milk of magnesia. Take it before bed and you will will be good in the morning. With high, high Protein diets and low, low carb you are bound to not be getting enough Fiber. That can definitely make you feel bloated and hang on to weight. Also Water. Keep that water going. As much as you possibly can.

Congratulations on the loss! I am glad you have posted this. I am 2.5-3 wks post op (lapband with plication). Yesterday, I went for my first post-op follow up per their scale, actually weighed more than their scale in the preop room. How discouraging when I've been living on Protein Shakes, Thin oatmeal and soup! Without this post, I don't think I would have ever heard of the "stall period". Definitely motivating to keep on keepin on and the lbs will (eventually) fall off!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
