Cupcake 801 Posted January 10, 2015 Hi I slept in the bed with my husband and a heating pad, after the first two days I was feeling better and resume walking outside instead of around the house, I had no complications and once the gas was gone I was off and walking as much as I could. Luvin_Life125 558 Posted January 11, 2015 I lived in my recliner the first week after surgery. Surgery was a great motivation to finally replace my old and worn out recliner. It was still difficult to sleep in bed after the 1st week and I would still get up about half way through the night and move to the recliner. Sleep wherever and however you are comfortable. We all have to do what is best for us!
Vabeachlady 37 Posted January 11, 2015 I slept in bed but had several pillows that propped me up like in a recliner. I had to sleep on my back for about a week. Getting up from the bed was a real bear! Had a laparoscopic hysterectomy several years ago. The incisions were similar to my bypass incisions (just a bit lower). They were very helpful in telling me how to get out of bed without hurting myself. After I remembered that, it was much easier to get up. Here is a video I found tonight that might help you. MaryJane11 10 Posted January 11, 2015 I had mild pain. But believe it or not when I got home I slept on my stomach like normal with a drain in. I'm single but I couldn't sleep any other way
gennylynn1 4 Posted January 11, 2015 I slept in a chair first night home the bed was to uncomfortable, then I slept on the couch for a few nights. Then back to the bed, after the pain eased up.
fat2fitva 5 Posted January 11, 2015 I had moderate pain. The first 24 hours were extremely uncomfortable. I needed my IV meds regularly. It is best to stay ahead of your pain so ask for the meds when you start feeling uncomfortable in the hospital. It will take them atleast 20 minutes to get you your meds...if they aren't too busy. The nurses can be slow. I took my pain meds at home for about 10 days. My surgery was 12/15 (almost 4 weeks) and I am great but still have a little tummy tenderness. fat2fitva 5 Posted January 11, 2015 And I slept in my bed! Found sleeping on my side was most comfortable for my healing tummy!
drmeow 323 Posted January 11, 2015 Just wondering how the pain from this compares with having a C-section, for anyone who's had both. I've had 2 of those, and had difficulty getting up from bed for about a week, but I had to, to take care of my babies! Horizontal incisions with both, but hip to hip. I had a laparascopic gallbladder removal a few years before that and it was nowhere near as uncomfortable - had it out on Thurs and went back to work (full time, physical job) on Mon. Maybe this is somewhere between those 2?
tart 21 Posted January 12, 2015 I had little to no pain unless I sneezed! I think pain is different for everyone. But if you get up and walk as soon as you can it will go easier for you. the worst part after surgery was I could not drink anything until they did an upper GI to make sure my tummy had no leaks. Beni 1,484 Posted January 12, 2015 From the time I went home all I had was 2 Tylenol. I was a little sore, the first night and had a headache two days later. I did make a recovery room for me at home but it wasn't really necessary. The nice thing was I could watch TV at any hour because my sleep schedule was a little messed up. This way I could be comfortable and I wouldn't wake up my husband all the time. I liked my room and I did have a recliner in there because during the day it provided a change and I would nap on it occasionally. The hardest part was getting up from bed. It is important to be careful or your incisions will open. One of mine did a little. I tried to do too much too soon. 4 weeks of lifting no more then 10 lbs or pushing is a must. Pretend you have no core muscles. If you are using them - stop
smoggie 11 Posted January 15, 2015 Had my op on 7th jan 2015 was home on 9th of jan and just had paracetamol for pain relief, the only pain I really felt was the dredded gas pain, i slept in my own bed the 1st night home ( very uncomfortably ) the main problem I've had is tiredness and anxiety by hyperventilating none stop since I went in for the op, but it's starting to ease a little each day. Just had the war wound dressings taken off yesterday and all is healing good, just the Water is a nightmare, trying to sip 2ltr a day is a task and a half & I'm going out a few times a day on short dog walks... Going off the subject a bit here lol, but sleeping now is a lot better. ????
