After surgery, did you sleep in the bed with your mate/spouse or did post up in a recliner or guest room etc etc?

I slept in my bed. I had little to no pain and did not receive pain killers after surgery, as is my surgeons practice. I didn't even need a Tylenol.

I slept on a recliner for about 10 days. My significant other moves a lot so I was worried about him hitting my sore spots in his sleep. Even after the 10 days I put pillows between us to avoid any nighttime collisions haha

@@aelovelady,

Wow! That's what I needed to hear a week before my surgery! :) I hope I have the same easy recovery as you.

@@aelovelady, I'm blown away by your report that you had little to no pain and no painkillers. That has not been my experience at all. I had surgery on Tuesday and I'm taking both chewable Tylenol and liquid oxycodone. Last night was my first night home, and I can't imagine how I would have gotten through it without meds. Even with a full dose of liquid oxy I was still whimpering and crying when I had to get out of bed in the night to use the bathroom.

If I owned I recliner, I totally would have slept in it. I have a very tall bed and a big cushy pillow-top mattress, and getting in/out was very difficult for the first day. I've been home for 24 hours now and am finding it much easier to get in and out of bed, but the first night was really rough.

@@MisforMimi, I don't want to freak you out or anything with this. I may just have a weak pain tolerance or just had a rougher time for other reasons. Even so, the really bad part was just a few hours and I'm amazed how much better I feel already.

The first 48 hours were brutal. By the third day I wouldn't have known I had surgery except I had ugly incisions on my belly. I count myself lucky that I was one of those that had an easy recovery and minimal pain. I went back to work 2 weeks after surgery and could have easily gone back a week later as I was going stir crazy with boredom!

I was on the reclining couch for the first 3-4 days.... too much pain using my stomach muscles getting in and out of bed. Couldn't even lay on my side for about 10 days.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Of course I want to hear the good, bad and the ugly. I've read the horror stories on this site and I think I know what I'm getting into. I've noticed the closer I get to the actually date the more I want to hear the good stories.....its natural, I think.

I had a super easy recovery. I slept in my normal bed and was off my pain meds early.

All the best!!!

Two and a half weeks in the recliner for me. I stayed on pain medication for that long also. Then one morning I woke up with no pain at all! I moved to the bed and haven't taken anything stronger than chewable Tylenol since.

I had no pain either. I kept waiting for it, but it just didn't happen. Slept in my own bed.

my first night home I slept in bed with my wife, even though we were both paranoid of her laying on my drain and ripping it out ???? I had barely any post op pain as well...aside from the usual gas pressure.

Pain was very manageable. Slept in my own bed the first night I was home.

I'm 5 1/2 weeks out, and when I came home, the only pain I had was in my esophagus due to hernia repair. I had slept in the recliner for 3 days until it was suggested to get a wedge pillow and that worked perfect! Now don't need the wedge at all. Also, if you take antidepressants, please ask your doctor when to start them back! If they can't be crushed, ask for a kind that can until you can swallow them. Good luck!!
