Hospital stay and How long were you out of work?

Recommended Posts

I know it varies by person and your type of work -- but what was the length of your hospital stay and the number of weeks out of work?

My job is a desk job.

And I am specifically asking those that had the Gastric Sleeve procedure.

Thanks

I was in the hospital one night. I have a desk job and took a week off. If I had to do it again, I'd take two weeks off. That first week back was tough due to low energy levels, even just sitting there at the computer all day. Give yourself as much time to heal as you can.

I worked Monday(11-3) a full 10 hours then surgery on Tuesday(11-4) up and walking that day up and down the halls by Thursday the6th I walked a mile in the halls and was discharged. Didn't use the pain meds and was driving Friday. Back to work on Monday 11-10. I had no pains and have been lucky to have no issues other than nausea. I'm down 35lbs in 9wks. I'm happy with the entire process even though I still deal with nausea and there are things I can't stomach ... I consider myself blessed!

2 night stay, sleeved 12/31, still off work

I have a newspaper route, lots of lifting standing twisting bending. Will be off another week or so. My husband is covering for me. He took vacation from his job.

I was in the hospital for 1 night. My surgery was on a Wed, I was back to work on Monday. I own a company so it was kind of up to me but I was getting stir crazy sitting around the house all day. I had my assistant pick me up on his way to work and just packed a little lunch cooler with my Jello, Protein Drinks etc and I was fine.

I had one night in the hospital and took one week off work. I had my surgery on a Friday, so that gave me an extra weekend to rest.

I was in the hospital for 1.5 days, I was discharged the following evening. I took 3 weeks off of work (I work a desk job as well). I felt ok by week 2, but was glad to have the extra week off to get my strength back and figure out a menu of some sort for when I went back. Definitely be prepared!

I was in the hospital for 5 days, two longer than my surgeon's norm. I had some unexplained bleeding and needed an additional surgery plus some units of blood. I was off for 6 weeks, which is surgeon's norm and I had the time to take. I work a desk job.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
