abbyrn27 87 Posted January 10, 2015 How large is the company? Odds are if HR or a health assessment is asking your boss will never even see those forms.
unbesleevable1 420 Posted January 28, 2015 your place of business cannot request your actual medical records without signed authorization from you. So, to answer your question, No, they can't find out you had the surgery any other way than you telling them. You do not have to answer the question.
geekguy 27 Posted January 29, 2015 What everyone else said - I would say this is a good-intentioned attempt to ascertain any restrictions, but it's none of their business.
GenaW828 117 Posted January 29, 2015 Is your manager looking at that information? It seems like that is HR paperwork and they shouldn't give your manager any of that information. what type of work is it? Kinda strange that that is an actually question
GreenEyes604 753 Posted January 29, 2015 @@sukik … You are not required to release any personal health information that you do not choose to. Just like insurance companies can no longer deny you coverage for pre-existing conditions, an employer can not refuse you a job based on your medical history. If it were a case where the condition precluded you from being able to handle your job duties effectively and safely, that is a different story, but because you had your tonsils taken out, your appendix removed, or part of your stomach taken out is none of their business whatsoever! gal friday 176 Posted January 29, 2015 Unless there is a rule that all surgeries must be disclosed at the time that you have them, I don't see why filling it in would hurt you. Now according to HIPAA, you do NOT have to disclose that information unless it is relevant to the work you are doing, and I wouldn't fill it out, but even if you did, you shouldn't penalized for it.
