Does anyone have any tips or suggestions they wish they had known once getting home? How long was your recovery and sleeping?

No chores, no housework, no nothing is as important as rest and fluids. If it hurts to go from lying down to sitting up, sleep propped up or in a recliner for a few nights.

Be prepared to be sad soon. It is normal and you will get over that slump. Do no Chores or Housework like stated above. I tried and could only do 2 minutes then sat down for 2 hours. You really need to listen to your body. You just had major surgery and it takes time to heal.

Do exactly what your surgeon tells you. They obviosly know more than we do. To date, I have lost 54 pounds just by doing what they say.

If you cannot get your Protein in, don't worry. With me I didn't get any Protein in except maybe 10 oz a day, and that was from the liquids I was drinking. I tried to find something with protein in it.

Relax and realize it takes time. This is the new beginning for you, a second chance. Also, remember they did surgery on your STOMACH not your BRAIN.

Have a sparkling day and relax...

Annamarie

A few things it would have been nice to know.

1) I had to sleep propped up, like in the hospital bed.

2)Sleeping on my side was OUT, for the 1st 3 weeks.

3) I hated the world for that 1st week. I wanted to fight everyone and everything! :P

4) It's going to be a struggle to drink enough. Just keep sipping all day.

5) Wear the elastic support band, all day every day. I wore mine for the 1st month - I was just a little OCD about it.

6) By day 10 most all discomfort was gone and I was out and about. Went back to work on day 11.

7) And most important - I no longer had food craving or really even cared about food anymore! Goodbye head hunger!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
