I wanted to know how anyone battled with quitting smoking before your surgery and how long do u have to be smoke free before they will do it? Its hard enough having to drop 10 before surgery and then have to quit smoking too! Im gonna be throwing plates! :)

My doc won't do the surgery unless you've been smoke free for 1 month prior. They say that it really aids in the healing process after surgery, and it's been thought that smoking "could" be related to erosion later on.

I have 1 week and 3 days to quit. I'm so stressed out over things right now that it is just making it harder. But I have no fear, come Monday, June 4, I will be smoke free. I'm not going to let one habit (smoking)ruin the success I can have with another(weight loss surgery) I'm ready to let it go in my heart, but sometimes my mind isn't so ready.

Good Luck,

Lynette

I quit smoking last August. Commit lozenges were really helpful and I kept busy as much as possible.

I was told to be smoke free at least 6 weeks before surgery and that it interferes with the healing process and when you are under the anesthesia you have a harder time with the breathing tube also smoking thins your blood vessels and that can also complicate things while under.

It's a pretty good idea to try to quit. The sooner the better. Just do your best.

On the 6th of June, I will be smoke-free for 6 months. For me, I just made my mind up and layed them down. My husband has been smoke-free for almost 6 months as well, but he had to use Chantix, it is a new smoking cessation medication (very expensive). It is the ONLY thing that has ever worked for him (he has smoked 3 packs per day for 25 years). He did not even want to quit smoking, had NO desire, but he agreed to JUST take the medication. Within 2 weeks he noticed that cigarettes began to not taste good. Within 1 month, he went from 3 packs per day, to 10 cigarettes per day. And within 6 weeks he had completely stopped. This medication works so well because it stimulates the nicotine receptors of your brain and therefore when you quit smoking you have absolutely no withdrawal symptoms. I HIGHLY advise this medication if you are having a hard time quitting. And yes, it is expensive, but still cheaper than the cost of cigarettes!

Peace Out!

Thank you for the Chantex information! I haven't heard of it, but I am going to have my husband check into it!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
