You'll be very sore and groggy. Avoid sneezing :) The liquid pain medicine is horrible tasting! Make Jello ahead of time and have your liquid diet planned. You should get a food list from your doctor. It might take three days to have a BM but that's normal. -But don't get constipated; drink lots of Water. It's easier to sleep in a recliner because sleeping on your side hurts and it's really hard to get comfortable in a bed for the first 5 days. At about day 4, you'll feel a big improvement. By day 10, it only hurts if you have to bend over to pick something up off the floor (hate that when that happens!). I went back to work one week after surgery and no one could tell I had anything done. Keep your eye on the ball through the liquid phase. By day 10 you'll be able to have cottage cheese, etc. and life improves. You'll also lose about 10-15 pounds by day 10 between the pre-op diet and the liquid phase.

I felt a lot of back pain. Turned out to be the gasses trapped inside. Had a lot of gas pains. The pain meds helped and walking. Felt it horribly for the first two days the. It gets better by two weeks. Gas X strips help. For me that was the worse of it. Then pain on my side through the incision where the stomach is removed. drinks lots of liquids and stick to your liquid diet and walk walk walk. Started feeling like myself a month later but everyone varies. Best of luck.

My wife drove me home around 5pm, surgery was 8:30am.

I got on my lazy Boy recliner with a warm comforter, the TV remote, pain meds, a cup of chicken broth and a glass of Water, and there I stayed till the next morning.

Content and blissful.

The next day things started to get interesting....but I started to climb the walls by day 3 and went into the office but tired quickly. I also ran some errands.

1 week after surgery I had my follow up appointment with my surgeon, returned to work full time and was released to go to the gym.

I felt like I was drunk! The world was spinning for the first 24 hrs. It was such a strange feeling but it went away. I found I had a lot of chest and left sided shoulder pain. My dr said this would happen because he repaired a hiatus hernia (which is not uncommom). A hiatus hernia is when a part of your stomach has come up through your diaphragm. This has to be fixed because this is where the band goes. Often times this is the cause of acid reflux if you have been suffering from it. My throat was also very scratchy from the tube they put down my throat. All of this is minimal compaired to how good I will feel in a few days and start losing more weight:)!!!!

I had no problems with meds. I only take two so it's no biggie. I also ordered my Vitamins in liquid form a custom blend. I was not released to work out for 30 days but I was encouraged to walk daily and increase time weekly. I returned to HIIT work outs at 45 days and have been actively participating since then. I am losing inches and firming up remarkably and since starting to work with a trainer 30 days ago I am well on my way to definition and true strength I've never had before. Weight training is a friendly reminder that I was once a jock and then I tore my body up...so at age almost 51 I'm so excited to feel like my body is returning to health one layer at time.

Your prep diet is a little different from mine. My doctor said I had to keep my calories to 900 a day, but he didn't restrict me to liquids only. Sorry about that. Hang in there. I feel your pain. I've moved my post-op diet along quicker than I was told because I was going crazy with the liquids.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
