Weight Loss Realization

Recommended Posts

I've been kinda grumpy about my weight loss - I've lost right at 30 pounds in two months since surgery. But, honestly, most of that time has been a stall - seems like the weight loss happened over just a few days and the rest of the time, nothing happened.

THEN I realized that what I've actually done is lose 1/3 of the weight I want to lose in just 2 months. Put it that way, it sure sounds like a lot!

As with most things in life, it's all in how you look at it.

I feel similarly grumpy but am having trouble finding the silver lining. I am almost 3 months out (in a week it will be 3 months) and I've lost 46 since surgery... but, like you, I feel like it happened mostly all in the span of a couple days and most of the time I'm stalled out. Plus, while 46 is nice and all, I need to lose something like 120 pounds so that's barely a flash in the pan. Sigh.

Hey you guys I am a preop pt trying to get authorization for surgery. I have done weight watchers for the past 5 years and have found that following the program and exercising regularly I was losing only 4-5 lbs/month and then stalling out for months at a BMI of about 33. So 30 pounds in 2 months sounds great. Last night at my exercise class I met a woman who had lost 70 lbs in 3 months but she said she felt awful because she was so weak from not eating. So if you are feeling good that's terrific!

I am 7 weeks today since surgery and as of this morning I've lost 34 pounds since that day. 44 if you count the weight lost on my 5 day liquids diet during preop. I keep getting bummed because I will drop like 10 pounds in no time then stall out for a week or more. Then I read other posts on here and I realize 34 pounds in 7 weeks aint to shabby when it comes to weight loss. I still have 100+ to go so I'm similar to @easymack63. We can get through this, just gotta keep chugging along. I agree it's easy to get grumpy and bummed about it when the scale aint moving but when looking at the bigger picture, I think we're doing A-OK!

Whether you lose a bunch of weight and stall for 3 weeks.....or lose a little weight each day.....it still adds up to a bunch of weight lost : )

Way better than gaining no matter how its shed!

Stay true to the process and it will all work out just like its suppose to.

Continued luck to everyone!

! Amen! Amen! And seriously 30 lbs sounds great! I mean who wouldn't love to loose 480oz in 2 months that's like 240oz/month! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
