Hey BWD!

Welcome to the site. You will find a ton of information here. The Band and the weightloss that goes with it has been great. I feel like a million bucks! I invite you to check out the "Guys Only" thread as we deal with some of the guy issues. If you have any questions, fire away....

Which island do you live on? We've been to Hawaii twice and will probably be back before too long. We like to meet exchange students we've had from Asia and Hawaii is a great halfway point.

Have a great weekend!

Bruce

Aloha Bruce

I live on Kauai, been 29 years, what a great place to live. I have lots of questions, as with most things when get down to it you can't think of one. I was wondering about work, I work in an office but I do like to work outside, in the yard, sometimes cutting down trees and you know that guy stuff, ha.ha. can you feel the band or are any restrictions on that type of work.

Aloha

Welcome to LBT -BWD,

I'm 36 yrs old and have been banded for 6mos.. I've lost 30 lbs so far.. very exciting.. no regrets here.. The incisions take about 6wks to heal...

I ride motorcycles and do all sorts of activity.. I work in an office as well. You shouldn't have any problems cutting down trees and so forth. I would check with your doc. to see how long before real strenuous adtivity.. I had the surgery on a Tuesday and returned to work the next monday.. I would suggest that you sleep in a recliner of some sort for a few days after surgery.. This helped w/ the travelling gas.. some people get the gas trapped in their back or shoulder blade, which sucks-

As far as the port, you can feel it if you press into your abdomen. As far as fills go, they only take about 2 minutes.. a little uncomfortable, definitely bearable.. not painful.. I hope this helps.. Good luck and feel free to ask me more questions.. later

Aaaahhh Kauai!!! We only spent a day on Kauai, but it was my favorite of the islands. We took a big rubber raft and explored the (Napali?)coast. It was awesome! The native people were much friendlier than on the tourist traps.

Anyway, as clynnc told you, work should not be a problem. I slept in a recliner for about 4 or five nights. Take a pillow with you to the hospital. When you come home it helps to hold it against your stomach on bumpy roads (or bumpy landing in your case).

I own a small seed business. I had my surgery on Wednesday, I was going to stop by work for a couple hours on Friday but my wife still had my car keys so I stayed home. I went in on Saturday morning for a couple hours and worked all day Monday. I was doing some lifting of bags (50#) after 3 weeks. I was pretty much at full strength at 6 weeks. Now I'm better than I've been for years.

Fills are no problem. Kind of like a bee sting.

Take care....

Bruce

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
