Hi I had my surgery in May 2013 and have had only small weight loss around 4kg. I have problem with reflux and regurgation often. i have tried avoiding some foods but cant seem to find why this happens on some occasions and not others. I have also woken up coghing due to food coming back up which scares me. I recently have pain if I sleep on my left side. I raised all of these concerns with my surgeon but he is happy that I havent gained weight and isnt sure why people regurgitate sometimes and why they dont. Has anyone else expereinced odd symptoms like this. I know many people who have had the procedure with great success and I don't understand why this is happening?

Anne

Anne, this sounds to me like the red zone......maybe you need a small unfill?

It does sound like you need a small unfill. My DR, says reflux, over several days, is a sign that you need a small amount removed.

Good Luck.

Yeah .. I agree with the others. It also concerns me that your surgeon isn't bothered by it.

Its learning to eat slower, smaller amounts each mouth full, and giving yourself time in between swollowing. I'm still trying to train myself after 4 years, and when I forget my band reminds me. You do have to learn a different way of eating the band is there to slow you down, if you eat the same way you used to, it will respond.

BINGO!

(not that it's the OP's problem, but it is a lesson all banders must learn to be successful)

I had my band placed 3 1/2 years ago and last 6 months developed increasing problems with vomiting and pain with food passing through the band. No amount of chewing or small bites were helping me swallow Protein food, e.g., meats or chicken or seafood. I had some problems with this for a longer period but I thought it was all me. As it turns out, finally visited a new doctor in my practice who advised I was probably too tight. 1.25 ml less of Fluid later and I can finally eat Protein foods and I am less hungry. Actually lost 10 lbs this first month on a bariatric diet! The doctor tells me that they know more about the lap band now and have found that too much tightness causes lots of problems like slipped bands and dialation. I am so glad I finally went back to discuss the problem instead of assuming it was all me.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
