How many calories to support you're fitness level

Recommended Posts

How many calories to support you're fitness level. My dietitian/Surgeon wants me to up my calories to 1500. With my bariatric stomach this is a chore. I eat all day. I'm able to get in 1000 at 7 months out. How do you fit you're calories in?

I exercise 4-6 days a week and only need about 1300 calories. Are you large framed or tall? At less than a year out, I wouldn't up my calories that much until I got to goal.

Oh no. I am not tall. I'm 5'5" and 141 pounds (one pound to my surgery goal at 7 months out). I'm still loosing and plan to get to about 130.

I exercise 6 to 7 days a week. an hour of cardio and an hour of weight training added every other day. I'm working with my trainer at my gym. I have completed a 10K and I'm working to increase my distance to a half marathon.

Trying to figure out how to balance fitness and a bariatic stomach

Ok got it. Here's how I did it. I upped calories progressively- 100 or so for a month at a time by adding more fats in like avocado, butter and a few higher fat meats on occasion (bacon!).

mmmm bacon

Thank's, progressively I think I can do. I feel the restriction and its taking all day to get in 1000 calories. I'm also adding in nuts they are high in calories.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
