Dr. Appointment 1/5/2015

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I went to the Dr. yesterday and I have dropped another 8 lbs., so now I am down to 191 lbs...I have started walking again today, it was a semi warm day (brisk) at least we are out of the negative numbers. (I live in Colorado) Anyway I am doing ok, I talked with my dr. about throwing up all the time and she is going to order me a endoscope to see if maybe I have narrowing down in my pouch or esophagus. I hope they find out something. Tonight I ate a taco ( I have eaten them before with no problem) and not even 5 min later I threw it up and I ate it slow.....dang it. I tried to have broth and my stomach just refused to have anything to do with anything. So I stopped trying for a while, I guess it is a Protein Drink for me. Those are getting old too by the way, yuck. Can't stand the vanilla kinds anymore and the chocolate are getting to be really sweet. I don't have dumping so that is not a problem. I don't keep most of my food long enough for it to dump. LOL....Otherwise I am just doing like one of the posts I read about my cottage cheese and broth based Soups, string cheese and yogurt. That seems to do me well, I am going to buy some potatoes so I can bake them....that sounds good. Hey if that is all I can keep down so be it. I hate asking for pain meds b/c my Dr. kinda frowns at me. Never take on major surgery and have a past history of substance abuse. I may have been clean and sober for 6 years but they still are very stingy about pain meds and I wasn't even a pill popper kind of addict, it was something else that has nothing to do with pain meds. I get ticked off and tell them that is why I don't like to put my past history on my medical records because they judge you. Sorry hard day with my stomach, just venting. Thank you all for making me feel comfortable on here.

Hey, there is nothing wrong with venting. We all need to do it sometimes. The first two weeks after my surgery I refused to take my prescription. I was scared that I would get hooked, so I would melt Tylenol. Have you tried that?

Also, please be mindful that sometimes that after surgery your body simply can not tolerate the same types of food AND that sometimes people develop acid reflux. Foods you normally had no problem with can make you throw up and you have no idea why. Like a Tomato or anything tomato based. Or acidic fruits. Please make sure you check with your doctor and let us know how it works out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
