Ginger_ 0 Posted May 24, 2007 I booked myself in for September 13th - I wear braces and hopefully they will be off by then. I really need them off before the surgery as I realized I do not chew properly with them on. It's still 16 weeks away but you know how fast the summer disappears in Canada! I went for a consult with Kathy on May 4th, and she could have booked me in within a couple of weeks - I really wanted to dive in but cooler heads prevailed when I practiced chewing. While I was there I heard them talking about the "young man" being next and I knew they meant Robgoblin. I am scared of losing food, does that sound weird? What will I do with myself at certain times of the day? Do these old habits die hard or gracefully? I have only told my DH & one close friend - when it gets close I will tell a couple more friends, but I'm not interested in too many opinions right now, I just want to trust mine. Looking forward to hanging out here more! I wish I could go to the Bandster Bash this weekend, but I have a lot on. Have fun if you're going! Hopefully I can be there next year. Cheers! CanadaSunshine 0 Posted May 24, 2007 YAY!!!! Hooray for you!!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: Doesn't it feel like your life is already different? We can relate to your fears of losing food...but boy is it ever FUN to replace those old unhealthy comforts with positive, joyful, healthy ones!! I did the same thing as you before surgery. Not too many people needed to know, cause I didn't need their opinions! It's so great to be healthy again...and now you're on your way!!! Congrats!!!
LeslieLee 0 Posted May 24, 2007 Good for you Ginger!!! And you have already started losing!! That is so wonderful. I am excited for you too and I also understand about losing food, but I try not to look at it as giving up or losing anything (except extra weight) I try to look at it as finally getting a grip on being healthy!! Have a great summer and I am looking forward to reading your posts and watching your progress!
Mr. Yoda 0 Posted May 24, 2007 I am scared of losing food, does that sound weird? What will I do with myself at certain times of the day? Do these old habits die hard or gracefully? You are not the only one worried about LOSING FOOD! I am a chef and for the past month now I have faked and bluffed my way through food tastings and menu items as I can't have them right now. I too was worried about that same thing but you just incorperate(sp?) them into you routine and get on with your life. it IS scary at first, but like anything new, once you're used to it, it looses it scaryness. I am mid way through my pureed phase of the Post op diet and It has acutally made me use my head more with reguards to what I can do with food, and how I can get it from a usual state to a pureed state without wanting to vomit at the final result. All challenges met, wheather(sp?) we win or fail, make us stronger! You (like most of us) will do just fine and what food you loose, you will find others to replace them. Paulax 8 Posted May 25, 2007 I still mourn food, but I love the size 14 pants I just bought MUCH BETTER. I quit smoking nearly 20 years years ago. I still miss that too, but would never even consider smoking, so I hope it is the same with food.< /p> Congratulations, I want you to know that as I come closer to my own one year anniversary, I am so proud of myself for going through with this surgery. If I hadn't I'd still be 280 pounds, I just know it. I feel so much lighter and brighter, I am happier. This has been an awesome thing for me. Miracle really. Good luck and yes, the summer will pass quickly. Paula

Miranda 0 Posted May 25, 2007 Hi Ginger I like you have just made the jump. I was in the TLBC office this week. Before I even told her I was intereted she pulled out her book to schedule me. I cracked and booked for 2 weeks. Wow no time to really think about it. Actually I am really glad I booked. I am in day 1 of the pre op diet....not fun...I hope it will get a bit easier. I just had dinner like 30 min ago and Im soo hungry again. It will get better. You have a few months to prepare urself!
CanadaSunshine 0 Posted May 26, 2007 Ginger, quick reply has less buttons and features...for when you just want to drop a quick response without all the goodies and stuff. Boy I'm technical hey? lol:p Miranda, Congratulations!! Way to go...and so quickly! No time for all the wanting, waiting and hoping...HA! who needs it, if you're already sure! Miranda 0 Posted May 26, 2007 Thanks CanadaSunshine! Ya I think if I had to think about it for along time I would really be second guessing if I should do it. Now I am already in day 2 of the pre op diet. Only 13 days to go! I have to admit its not the end of the world eating yogurt and cottage cheese. Ask me in a few days and I may feel different lol! jojo 0 Posted May 26, 2007 Congrats on your quick decision. I did the same thing. Walked into the TLBC sat down and was booked for surgery three weeks later. There were days when I was shocked that I had done that but most days I was glad. I had my surgery two days ago (May 24) and am feeling pretty good. Dr. Yau was great and even found and repaired a hernia I never knew I had. I would like to thank anyone who was in the waiting room that day as my husband was sitting worried while I had my surgery and he said that the women he spoke to were wonderful to him and it helped him get through. Miranda, hang in there. It is quite a journey but one worth while.

Hello Miranda/Ginger: Initially, I did exactly the same thing - went in and booked the surgery. My own doctor then wanted to give me some extra tests prior to the surgery so I had to move it to June 01/07. Four days to go...the anxiety attacks are starting and I'm soooooo hungry!! :hungry: Hanging in there with a few downfalls along the way. :omg: Good luck! Miranda 0 Posted May 28, 2007 Hi Marcar35! Actually I am such a worry person. I have emailed the nutrution person Jill twice and have not heard back. I emailed Kathy, did not hear back. So that makes me worried about the sort of service I will get after the surgery. A bit discourging I have to say. So I have seen you lost 12 with the pre op! Thats AWESOME!! I am on day 4 day. Its really not the end of the world for me. Usually when I start a diet or whatever I get major withdraws (headache, dizzy, moody) so far really nothing. Some periods where I am so hungry I could puke. Overall good though. Personally did you find it got easier as the days went? I find I am just staring at my date-June 7/07 thinking wow can I do this for another week and half. However knowing theres no other options keeps me postive. marcar35 0 Posted May 28, 2007 Hi Miranda: No, I've not found it easier as time went on. I had 4 major downfalls but I've still lost weight. The cravings have not subsided and I find I have to keep really busy and away from the kitchen!!. Surfing this website helps.
