My name is Maya or blackbean on here. I had Roux-en-Y gastric bypass 7 weeks ago at Abbott Northwestern hospital. Dr. Daniel Leslie was my surgeon.

My weight before the 2 day bowel prep and clear liquid diet was 279, Surgery Weight was 269, current weight is 229.

I'm finding life after surgery to be a rough road to get used to. But I keep telling myself things will be much better by a year out. The picture is from about a week ago.

Hi Maya and welcome to the site. We have a lot of support here and can answer just about anything you want to ask. Take you time and look over all the subjects and have fun. If you use the web site vs the app you'll see a lot more information. I had RNY done last August. Why are you saying you're having a rough road? The worst part of your journey is over. You should be on solid foods now or really near to it. It should be nice to be able to chew, chew, chew again. What if anything have you found you can't eat? I found out beef doesn't sit well for me. Also anything over 5 grams of sugar or fat gives me diarrhea. Best of luck with your weight loss and welcome again to the site.

I think if anyone says to me, "Oh, you took the easy way out" I am going to punch them. I had bypass surgery on November 10, 2014. I started at 260 pounds, but am now at 213. I would say that is pretty good for less than 2 months. My main problem was being able to drink the Protein Shakes. I have tried them all and can't drink them without gagging. I still am somewhat weak, but feel so much better than before. I had sleep apnea, high blood pressure, had 2 knee surgeries, severe back pain, arthritis, but when they told me I was diabetic, that was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. The doctor said I was looking at 20 years off of my life if I didn't do something. I am 59 now, so that didn't leave much life for me. I now only take 2 blood pressure pills a day, before I was taking approximately 12 a day. I no longer have sleep apnea, severe pain, diabetes or any of the other problems. This surgery was a life saver for me and I get stronger everyday and have NO REGRETS!

According to my surgeon's food guide I can eat solid foods at 6 weeks out. I had a dilation of a stricture at4 weeks out, so I went back to Clear Liquids that day, full liquids the next, and purée for the next week. I CAN eat regular diet now but my pouch is happiest with soft to liquids.

Things the pouch won't keep down: most meats except fish, breads, Pasta, cheese, fried foods.

I don't get dumping syndrome no matter what I eat. I tend towards grazing and haven't given up liquid calories entirely. More in this later if anyone's gotten this far.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
