At my 2-week checkup I told my doc that I was getting hungry. His response, "Are you sure you're not just thirsty? that's what it usually is." And he was right. Now I'm 6 months out and I'm a drinking machine -- 100-120 oz per day. I get hungry on occasion 3-4 hours after a meal, but that's normal. If it gets uncomfortable, I eat an 80-calorie Greek yogurt (which used to be a light snack, but now fills me right up). But mostly, I just keep my sleeve full of liquid and that keeps my hunger away. And I agree with taking the antacids. Whenever I try to go off of them my stomach feels uncomfortable. Good luck, and If you need tips on how to drink tons of Fluid, let me know....

My surgery was Dec 17th, and I'm very hungry, especially in the evening. I've been only on protien shakes and liquids up until now and I'm hoping that the next stage - soft diet will help me stave off the hunger.

I haven't felt the hunger, but if am certainly more in tune with my eating habits. I feel my food travel and gear the groanings as my food is digesting- I can't say I have felt hunger, but I know when I need to eat. Be sure to keep up with plenty of Water that will also help fill you up in between meals

Being able to put something more substantial in my tummy made all the difference in the world. That first soft egg took forever to eat, but it was soo good!

@bobbyswife

I was sleeved on Dec 9 and i had the same issues. I was HUNGRY a lot of the time. Everyone suggested that it was stomach acid, which may have been correct but part of what my dr's instructions was 20 mg of omeprazole (sp) which is the active ingredient in Prilosec, Nexium etc.

Once i started eating more foods than the soups/shakes i found that started to go away little by little. Today i was not hungry really at all except for now as I'm writing this. I find that it comes back mostly later at night now when i do have it. i try not to eat late but maybe i need a snack or even a Protein shake later after dinner.

I asked my doctor about this a week ago. Said I will never "feel hungry" again if I make sure I keep to the high Protein diet and get my Water intake at 64 oz a day which the water intake is extremely hard for me still... Said that the noises will most likely always be there but those are not hunger noises, so not to think that I need to go and eat something. Hope that helps. I also try to time my three meals 4 hours apart and then a protein shake/bar in between meals. Oh and for the soft foods, I was told to start each meal by eating the protein, like chicken (which I always added veggie broth to to moisten it, not a lot of broth, but to make it "soft") and it helped with the belly noises if I started with a harder "soft food" like chicken or slow cooked beef versus cooked carrots... It's still soft but it still heavier

I had my first soft meal last night, it was AMAZING!!!!! As simple as it was (egg beaters with a little cottage cheese), I ate a little too much too fast, and paid the uncomfortable price of doing that. But I got over it and later on I had the best nights sleep in quite a while. Never woke up hungry once.

Try making the egg over medium, so the white is cooked but the yellow part is still runny, it makes it easier to eat - I think - and I add a little black Beans to mines (not canned but cooked the dried Beans in veggie broth)... Also try adding the over medium egg in a 1/4 c of oatmeal (make it with soy milk for the added protein)... I had this for the first week of soft foods.

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

      The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
