Hello, my name is Betty and I am from Philadelphia.

I been overweight all of my adult life, well I have been up and down.

I have an appointment to see the surgeon on the 13th of June, I did have an appointment on the 23rd of May, but the doctor had to cancel it.

I hope that Aetna will pay for the surgery, this surgery is my last option, I have tried everything and if I don't lose weight and keep it off the remainder of my life will be very challenging. I have high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholostral and triglisrides and anixeity. I have had all for years actually since I was in my 30's and I am not in my 50's. I was on the liquid diet about a year ago and I still attend the monthly meetings, but I put the 49 pounds on that I lost. I did real well on the diet and by the 3rd week my blood pressure came down so low that they had to take me off some medicine and my doctor said that because my sugar was so under control that I wasn't considered a diabetic anymore.

I can't even tell you how happy that made me, I think to myself now how stupid am I, how could I have been doing so good and then go and mess up. I read alot on the forum about the lap band and it seems like it may be an answer to my prayers.

I'm just hoping that my insurance company will pay for it because I no way of paying it on my own.

Thank you.

Betty

Hi Betty  I'm originally from Northern DE, so I know philly well :( Welcome to the board.

The beginning of this process can be VERY stressful because there is so much that is "unknown"...Will insurance cover it? How much will I have to pay? How does it work? Will it work for me? etc. Take it one step at a time. Gather as MUCH knowledge about the lapband as you can before making your decision. The more educated you are, the more peace you'll have going through the pre-op process.

Best of luck to you :D

Betty,

I pray that your insurance will cover this...sounds like you have lots of health problems, so maybe they will agree to cover this...that would be great....

Don't beat yourself up over past mistakes...we have all been where you are....I have lost and gained and lost and gained...If I had a penny for every diet and every pound I have lost, it would have paid for my surgery....

Good luck to you...I hope all goes well...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
