Previous Banders - Sleeve questions

Recommended Posts

This is posed to any previous Lap Banders that had a rather traumatizing experience, like I did with the band and decided to get the Sleeve. What are/were you concerns having going through the trauma with the band and then going for the sleeve. I have my band out over 4 years ago. I was 176 when the band was removed and over these years I have slowly reached 210. I fight to not gain everyday...and eat much less than most. I am wondering is there any benefits / disadvantages going from a band to a sleeve?

I appreciate all the feedback!

I am really on the fence...not sure what to do...

Well, you have done great with the band - much better than I did. I had great success with the sleeve, but I know lower BMI revisions don't tend to lose as well.

Yes I am a band to sleeve revision. I highyl recommend the sleeve over the band. With the band, I was onl able to eat unhealthy, such as crunchy and fried foods. Otherwise, I lived on Soups and icecream. I couldnt do chicken, turkey, fish meats or vegetables, or they would get "stuck." I was always "sliming" with the band. I threw up constantly. With the sleeve, I have more options, such as meat, vegetables and fruits. I can eat healhy and not constantly throwing up. The band removal was very painful, however the sleeve surgery was easy. I dont regret my desicion to revise at all, I have finally reached my goal weight!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
