Grande Prairie, Alberta

Recommended Posts

Hey fellow Canucks...

I just wanted to create this thread, so that if anyone were to search Grande Prairie, Alberta. They would find me.

I was banded 10 months ago, and I am happily enjoying a new life that I honestly doubted was possible. I read so many other wonderful stories of hope, and barely dared to imagine it was possible for me too.

It's hard to believe that I am now one of the lucky ones living on the "other side".

If there is anyone thinking about Lap Band surgery in my area, and would like someone to talk to. I'm here for you! :D

Drop me a line anytime...

I'll dish about the good and the bad.:(

Until then, peace out, my bandy buddies!

Congrats on your terrific year! I also love your website and I am thinking that there is a little puppy girl here who might just be in the market for a few little gifts. She has been so good about getting me to walk in the morning..lol (gads I have created a monster, she starts yakking as soon as she hears me move in the morning now, doesn't stop till we go! lol )

Hi Canada Sunshine. I don't live in GP but I am from there to visit my parents every couple of months. Maybe we can get together next time I am visiting. (Probably the end of June). Glad you are doing so well!

Victoria.

Hi, Congrats on your weight loss you must be sooo happy. I just got my date Nov 8th so i am nervous and excited my husband is coming with me and we are going to Tijuana. I wanted to know were you get your fills done. Dr. Afridi said he would do it if he thought he could after looking at the DVD.

Yeah I concur! WHere is the Sunshine!! I am tired of all this rain (Central Ontario)

I have a question for everyone who has had this band longer than 4 or 5 months.

Once your 2 or 3 fill did you reallystart to lose weight well???

I have plateaued and am discouraged????

I havn't lost anymore since fill #1

That is normal peaches.Even though you are not losing lbs. you are still losing inches. I have plateaued for months and as long you follow the bandsters rules you should lose weight again or maybe you need another fill.

I completely understand your frustration. I lost most of my weight (so far) in the first 4-5 months. After my 4th fill I plateaued and am still there. I am very discouraged and disappointed in myself eve though I am still losing inches. I try really hard not to be hard on myself but is very difficult not to be when you try so hard and your result does not reflect your effort. I am very much an immediate gratification person and I have to learn to not expect so much of myself... and so do you. You are doing very well.

I read your old post about anyone from Grande Prairie who had a Lap Band. I'm close by in Dawson Creek. I had my surgery done on June 29, 2007 in Puerta Vallarta Mexico with Dr. Joya. I have lost 45 lbs. and am now needing a fill. I was curious where you have had your fills done? I am in Grande Prairie all the time (you know us Saturday cross border BC shoppers).

Talk to you soon,

Rhonda

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
