A little over one month out

Recommended Posts

So, I had my surgery on Dec 3rd, and have lost over 40 lbs! I'm still struggling with Water, and protien. Forget about soft food, not happening. The past week, I've been very constipated, with the exception of one bout of diareah a few days ago. Now I feel so backed up, that I think I'm going to vomit everytime I sip some water or gateraid. Don't know what to do... I see my surgeon and Nutritionalist next week... just want to start feeling better... also, upper back pain for a few weeks that won't go away.. any suggestions?

Congrats on you're weight loss.

It takes a bit to figure out what you're bariatric tummy can tolerate. Water will aid in the Constipation department. ( have you tried crystal light?)Stool softeners are another suggestion. Next week talk to you're team about things that will help. Everyone will tell you it get's easier with time. It is so true.

I am experiencing similar symptoms, except I am three months out. The doctor thinks I have an ulcer that is pushing against my back and causing my back pain. I have to drive an hour away to the hospital where I originally had my VSG surgery to get a procedure done. I hope you feel better!

Are you on any type of stool softener? If not you may want to try something to help you go. Smooth Move tea, milk of magnesia, colace, benefiber, and prune juice are some of the things people have found helpful. Are you walking around? That also helps get things going. If it worsens call your doctor.

Walking a lot at work, like 10k steps a day, more on the weekends. I was 'regular' before I went back to work on New Years eve, but have been like this since returning. Gonna try that tea tonight, and see what happens tomorrow. Thanks

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
