Waiting for Insurance approval, CPAP, preop diet

Recommended Posts

Hey all! There is so much running through my head. All of my info has been submitted to insurance, so I am waiting approval. The surgeon's office said I could be sleeved as rarly as 2 weeks! Eek! My biggest concerns are this, CPAP, I had to get one, though the doc said I do not actually have obstructive apnea, I do have periods where my oxygen drops some. My biggest issue is, I have 12 month old baby, that sleeps in our room, as out oldest needed to move home, and has the baby room. Over the past 2 months he has had croup, teething..my nights have been hectic. I get maybe, 30-40 min on the machine, and that is it. I cannot be the only one who had issues with this. The next issue I am having is starting a low carb diet. I want to, then I get distracted. I have not been instructed to start yet, but I need to lose 15 pounds. Totally doable on a low carb diet, why am I having such a hard time with this? I am discouraged, both with the cpap, and the lack of follow through with diet.

I am about two months out from my sleeve surgery. I have moderate sleep Apnea, am a single mom of 3 (ages 7, 14, and 18), and have a lot of trouble getting in enough time on my CPAP machine. My 7 year old is in a phase of not wanting to go to bed on time. I'm not in your exact situation, but I do understand. I'm proud of your decision to better your health through sleeve surgery.

I handle life with prayer. I'll be praying for you.

Ive been on CPAP..I know how intimidating it can be wearing this mask etc...tolerate it as even if you get an hour or so..its all registered on the SD card..I had this problem last month..sometimes notcwearing it as ive fallen asleep on sofa...or put mask on..couldnt sleep..turned it off..it can be bloody annoying! But no matter how much youre using this machine...it does help. Why not just go on a milk diet? Wuth home made low carb smoothies? ...wirh me its all or nothing....id rather just follow a all luquid diet..but if needs be..a peice of fruit if I yearn to chew.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
