:( Hi everyone! I am very new to all of this. I am pre-op for sure. I am just starting the process. I am going to the informational seminar on Tuesday May 29, 2007 with my husband. In the past, I almost had the gastric bypass surgery. I got married 5 years ago and my husband was not pleased with how dangerous that procedure can be. So, I did not have it done. I am so glad that a safer alternative is now available.

I have a ton of weight to lose. But at 53, it is way overdue for me. So I just wanted to check in. I have enjoyed all the great information and tips available here. I look forward becoming a part of this forum as my progress continues. Hugs:huggie:

Hi,

 to my neighbor across the lake!

The introductory seminar I am going to is at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. The surgeon that performs this surgery there is Dr. Krause. My plans now are to hopefully have the surgery at Beaumont if all goes well at the seminar.

I had my gallbladder out there last year and I was very pleased with the level of care I received. I am a very large woman and they seemed to be able to handle my restrictions very well. So I figured best to stick with what works.:(

Hello and WELCOME!!!!

I am from Michigan (near A2) and am being banded June 20th at Hurley in Flint.

I have heard wonderful things about Dr. Krause and the Beaumont Weight Loss Center.

As a side note, I was just talking with MCare about the Beaumont Group and she cautioned me that they charge some significant fees for either their "after-care" program or their "support group" she couldn't remember which. Make sure to ask lots of good questions about any "hidden costs" or food costs if they require a liquid diet.< /p>

Hi and thanks so much for all your kind words of welcome.

faithmd, I will be sure to ask about hidden costs. I really appreciate you bringing that to my attention. I will report here what I find out about the any costs like that after I go to the seminar. I am also relieved to hear that Dr. Krause has a great reputation! That helps a me feel alot better about this, believe me.

Big Wave Dave, I am nervous about all of this too. But, we have to think of our health. My doctor told me that if I don't do something about my weight, I could be easily taking 20 years off my life. I have alot of weight to lose. I am tired of dieting and gaining it all back and more. I know nothing is perfect, but we gotta try our best!!

Hello, I just joined! I had my lap band 3 months ago here in Pensacola ,FL. I just had my second fill and am hoping that I get some restriction so I can get this weight to come off. I have enjoyed reading everyone else's experience. It is so nice to have people to relate to with a situation like this and to hear their tips. I look forward to being a part of these forums.smile.gif

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
