I was banded March 7th 2007. I have lost 10 pounds since my surgery and lost this 10 pounds within the first two weeks. I have had 2 fills and on the second fill I got the thicker solution which has done its job in making me feel much more restricted. April has passed and May is almost gone with NO weight loss. I walk 45 min. at least 5 days a week. I have eaten some junk food but not that much and my portions are so much smaller. I know I have to use the band as a tool but now I feel like I need to go on a diet. I got the band so I could finally stop all of these diets that I have been on for over 20 years! I know I need to be patient and am trying to be, but 2 months have gone by with no weight loss, I exercise, watch my portions and feel restricted. What can anyone suggest? I have that horrible feeling of failure that all of us that have dieted know too well. The feeling that this is not working and that I am failing. I wouls love to hear opinions and suggestions!!!

I'd suggest tracking what your eating on fitday or even just on paper (maybe you're taking in more than you think you are), talking w/your doctor, and meeting with a nutritionist to review your food journal & provide guidance. Good luck!

It is very hard to figure out what your body needs in to get the weight loss that you want. It is pretty much trial and error at first. I was banded last Nov and have lost 35 pounds. A lot of others off of the Novermber site I go to have lost almost or at 100. I too get to feel like why is it so hard for me to loose weight when I am eating 1/3 of what I used too why isn't my body just shedding the pounds like crazy. A good thing to do is to track everything you put in your mouth on fitday.com because you don't realize how much you might be giving your body in calories. I try to stay between 1200 and 1500 calories a day. I love to snack on chips and I can eat them fine so it is a problem of extra calories that I don't need. You get in the habit of just finding soft things to eat but they might be high in sugar and calories. I have hit a couple of long platues but I notice if I really step up the exercise it does help kick start my very slow wieght loss. Honestly I keep telling myself the slower I loose the more time my skin has to catch up and I don't look loose and saggy. It is an obsession to track every little calorie and every bit of exercise but since we are on the weight loss journey it is what we have to do. Good luck to you and you can send me a private message if you have any questions. We all hit platues and it is a detective case to try to figure out how to get out of them.

Are you drinking with your meals? I can eat more If I wash it down as I go. So it is better not to drink with your meals.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
