Hi I am 1year and 1 month post surgery and loosing my hair? I know I am not getting all the Protein I need, can anyone tell me if they lost there hair, did it all fall out, how long does this go on, what did you do to stop it? I am terrified, my Dr. put me on prenatal Vitamins but thinking of a wig, my hair is so thin. Please if it has happened to anyone else please advise. Any words of encouragement will be appreciated.

Thans in advance.

Did your doctor recommend the prenatal Vitamins as a result of your consulting him or her about your hair loss, or were those the Vitamins that were originally recommended at the time of your surgery? If you have not already discussed this with your PCP, please do so. I don't think it's common for Hair loss to begin so late in the process. You may have some nutritional deficiencies.

On a more positive note, most people find that hair loss is temporary. Once they adjust to their weight loss, their hair grows back.

I lost it on the HCG diet, it came back.

That said - if you know you're not getting the Protein you need, fixing that would probably be step number 1. Along with, perhaps, a fish oil supplement.

I will warn you not to use the hair loss Shampoo (minoxidil) unless you're planning on using it forever. I made that mistake. I stopped using it. I looked like a chemo patient with Patches of hair.< /p>

I lost a lot of hair around the 6 month mark post surgery. My Vitamins etc were all good so that wasn't it. I had it cut shorter (not too short) and have been using Nioxin Shampoo and conditioner and treatment. It has grown back but I never had any Patches of baldness, it was just very thin all over.

I'm a bit over 2 months out and was recommended Biotin 10,000 . I started taking it when I started the 6 month diet with PCP. So far it's thickened my hair and no great loss so far.

I started losing hair at about 2 1/2 months out. My hair was already long and on the thin side. It has simply thinned quite a bit all throughout my hair~~ no bald Patches or anything. I haven't had to cut it. My hairstylist was the first one to notice it. I am now almost 4 months out and my Hair loss seems to have slowed down. I have been taking 10,000 mcg. of Biotin every day, and I also take Virgin Coconut Oil capsules and another Skin/Hair/Nails supplement every day. The suggestion by another member above about using Nioxin Shampoo, conditioner, and treatment is a great one. They have different formulations for different types of hair. I'd be using it myself but can't afford it right now as it's a little expensive for me. I have used it before and got it on sleekhair.com. Give it a try. Good luck to you! :)

Oh, and I take an Omega-3 supplement, too (fish oil capsules) I think it helps a little.

Thank you for all the replying. My family Dr. Ordered the prenatal Vitamins. I am already taking prescription fish oil for triglycerides. Will have my family Dr. Check into other areas I might be low in. Thanks for all the support

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
