Babbs,

So sorry for your loss. Havanese are happy, clownish dogs. Zsa-Zsa is a happy little girl. I've had to start giving her pills for her arthritis. I can always tell when she's hurting because she doesn't move much and just lays on her pillow.

She has one specific type of toy and that is the ONLY one she will play with. She's my cuddle bunny and Shadow is just that--my husband's shadow. He was named Benny when we adopted him but since we're good friends with our next door neighbors and his name is Ben and his son's name is Ben--we changed his name to Shadow. Shadow was a natural fit because he is always very near my husband. When I have been home and my hubby, (Lewis) is away, you would think I'm a piece of furniture. Shadow and Zsa-Zsa both are apprehensive until Lewis is home. When my husband has VSG on Monday, January 12th, I won't be getting much sleep that night because the dogs will run outside at every noise. We have a "doggy" door for them and Lewis has a wheelchair ramp for his power chair. They don't settle down until he's home and then they sleep very deeply. I sometimes think that pets can be more devoted to someone than a human can. They provide such unconditional love and they don't care what you look like, how much money you make or what kind of car you drive.

Kathleen

so great to see so many animal lovers on here. we have always had dogs, mostly farm dogs and horses. our dogs have lived long happy lives but even at that it's difficult to lose them. it's like losing part of the family. when our last dog died at 16 , he was a blue heeler with tons of personality, was my husbands best pal, my husband was lost . He found a puppy in the woods someone had dumped. brought him home and he is now the most spoiled dog ever. animal lovers are special people.

We buried our dear cat (Scooter) in the backyard too. It's been five years now. I cried so much the next day, I had big circles under my eyes. I really should have called in sick to work. My tears wouldn't quit and I'm sure people thought I was a crazy cat lady. It's hard to explain the deep bond you have with certain pets, no matter what kind of pet they are. It's a personal story for everyone.

I'm the cat lady. I know how you feel my 20 year old buddy Aloysious passed away a year ago. A month before a tiny white ball of fur appeared in my yard with no mama or litter. I took Stormie in because she was so tiny and look like she only had one eye. I later found out her eye was just crusted shut. She barely weighed a pound. Stormie saved me from dying of a broken heart when Aloysious died. Our furbabies are truly blessings to us. I'm glad you and Isaac found each other.

While I was overseas I was nicknamed The Cat Man because of my passion for the cats.

I'm actually going to apply to volunteer at our local animal shelter. It was one of my New Years resolutions :)

Yay!! I love this. Rather you bath a dog or throw a stick it rocks! I also beg of your going to donate donate to your local shelter not the SPCA or PITA so much more $$ Gos to the critters not the people

It's also good to go and ask you local shelter what they need. There's big but simple needs you can help with.

Exactly! Your money goes directly to the animals (and those that care for them) rather than a CEO and expensive television commercials. And @ is right, a lot of times they could use certain items or even your skills (Computer entry, phone calls, handyman/repair, lawn mowing, snow plowing, cleaning, laundry, volunteering at adoption events or fund raisers, socializing/training animals, etc) if you don't have spare cash.

Just so you know I not only support my local animal shelter. I'm an activist by heart and have not only supported my local shelter but I support the ASPCA, SPCA International and even PETA. Just say'n.

As a vegetarian I'm not a fan of PETA, but I support my local SPCA. They do wonders in my community. Stormie was spayed & microchipped for free thanks to them. She gets her yearly vaccinations for just $15 thanks to them.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
