When did loss get noticed

Recommended Posts

I was wondering how much other people had lost before people started to notice. My starting weight was in the high three hundreds. Between the pre-op program and sleeve (end of November) I have lost about seventy-seven pounds. So far it doesn't seem anyone has noticed. I know I have a long way to go. It's a little discouraging though. So when did people notice your loss? Thanks.

The first incident I remember was at about fifty pounds. I went to see a pain specialist that I see every three-four months. When they got me on the procedure table, they went through the "time-out" and I heard him whisper to his nurse "Do we have the right patient on the table? She doesn't look like it's the right patient. So they did the "time-out" over again. That's when I told him it was really me, only fifty pounds less of me.

@B Autumn My family notices everyday because I so un-shamefully point it out to them!! ;)

Congratulations on losing so much! Could it be that they noticed, but don't want to intrude?

There are a lot of people who will notice, but just not say anything. I mean how would we take it if someone says "Wow, you've lost weight! You look great!", or "You've lost weight, how much more do you need to lose?", or, worse yet "I bet you can't wait to lose the rest, huh?"? Everyone takes these things subjectively, and it can hit us so wrong on the wrong day, know what I mean? I'm sure you look great, I hope you're feeling great, and I hope you don't NEED anyone to tell you your great, cuz you already are! But it is nice to hear, so hear me!

I think a lot of this depends on your height. I'm only 5'3" so I think it's sooner than if I was much taller. I'm down 42 from my highest and people are really noticing now. My BMI was 42 on surgery day.

I don't feel a lot of people have noticed? I'm down a little over 70....people are always telling me that they can tell I've lost in my face....didn't know my cheeks weighed 35 lbs a piece?? A friend that I haven't seen in over a year asked if I had lost a lot of weight and said he could tell....but he has been the only one even though I'm down 3-4 sizes

I am so used to people pointing out that I need to lose. I guess I am just hoping they would notice I am trying. Since surgery I also had some other health issues come up. I have developed a vestibular Migraine and nystygmus in both eyes. It's hard to feel accomplished when you have vertigo and your eyes are jumping around giving you double vision. Thanks for trying to put perspective on the situation.

When people see you all of the time they don't notice as much as someone who has not seen you for a while. Keep at it - the best feeling is when you see someone do a double take because they don't recognise you at first glance :D

I started out at 271 and I am only 5'3". It took forever for people, besides my family, to notice my weight loss. It was actually funny because people would say things like; I love your haircut, did you get new makeup, you look so pretty is that a new shirt..etc. I just smiled and said "Thanks", but inside I was thinking no, it's the sixty pound weight loss. I have lost 101 pounds so far and finally people notice. Some of my co-workers will say "you look like you have lost some weight and you look great". When I tell people it's 100 pounds everyone says that I didn't have that much to lose and they don't believe it. I just take it all as a compliment; either I hid my weight well (NO) or they are just unobservant. All that matters is I feel great and look forward to losing more and continuing to get fit. The people who are close to me notice my weight loss and are super supportive and are a blessing in my life.

My family noticed as I was losing, it was nice to hear my butt looked smaller. :)

I was out of work for 5 weeks went back at about 36lbs lost. People noticed. Not everyone said something though. The people I am closer with, more than just hey how you doing noticed. My face has slimmed down a lot so people notice that too. My favorite is one of my male managers at work, he was off when I got back for another week or so. So when he saw me he was like, something is different? LOL He didn't know I had the surgery so I was telling him about it and he then said well you are looking good keep up the good work. :)

Just like Elode said, I do point it out to my family almost everyday and we have a running joke me and hubby about my teeny tiny butt. It is not teeny tiny YET but it will be. LOL

The main thing is I NOTICE! Everytime I put on a pair of jeans or shirt that was to tight and it fits I do a little happy dance!!

I went back to work at 4 weeks and someone pulled me aside and asked if I had liposuction. Then about a week later someone at work told me my boobies look smaller. I could have done without those comments.... I've had people ask me how I'm losing weight but I think it has to do with the fact that they hadn't seen me in a month. I'm almost 10 weeks and have lost 30 almost 35 pounds. It doesn't feel drastic but I can see it in my face and I assume others are concerned about my health and wondering if that's why I've lost weight.

My starting weight was 491. Am down almost 100 pounds (about 70 prior to surgery, almost 3 weeks ago) and the only people who "notice" are people who already knew I was losing and they can only really see it in my face. I have a close friend who is also losing who says she can see it elsewhere, but I think she really has to look for it! I think if I lose 25-50 more lbs maybe it will be noticeable in other places. I haven't really gone down in clothing sizes either. I figure I am good with most of my wardrobe for the next 50 lbs. At that point I'll have to replace some things, but I am sure I can "stretch" (no pun intended!) my ponte pants for a little longer than that!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
