How often do you weigh?

Recommended Posts

So, I'm only 5 days post op, & I wouldn't dare weigh right now. But, I was wondering how often do some of y'all weigh?

Weighing has always been a hard thing for me. I've gotten super discouraged in the past, so much so, that'd I would only weigh once every couple weeks or once a month. I know that this surgery is a game changer though, so how often should I weigh?

I weight maybe every two weeks or so.

I'm 6 months out and I only have ever weighed once a month. This has worked really well for me. You don't need all of the added stress if you don't lose anything for a few days. I think that is the reason why I got in trouble in the past. If I didn't lose anything for a few days I would stop eating and that made things worse.

Stick to the plan, the weight will definitely come off. An added bonus is that it feels so good to say you lost X amount in a month instead of 1/2 lb. here and there.

I weigh almost every day. I am two months out. I only record my weight once a week though. Weighing is so exciting now -- the scale is almost always going down :)

It depends. Are you going to let the numbers on the scale dictate how the rest of your day goes? Are you going to be able to deal with stalls and even weight gain if you weigh daily? If you think that's not going to bother you, by all means weigh daily. If it is a problem for you, stay off the scale and weigh weekly, bi monthly or even monthly if you feel that will work best for you. I weigh once a week, Monday morning no fail. Even weekly still can be annoying when you're in a longer stall ;)

I weigh every day.

Doesn't freak me out when I go up 0.4 pound or whatever.

I'm just curious about this process.

I had my surgery on 11/21. My first weighted was done on my two-week visit with the doctor. Then I am doing every Monday morning. I use the scale at work because it is the same type at my doctors.

I weight every day but either my house is not level or my scale is broken but depending on where I put the scale it can vary. So I only really count the scale at the doctor's office.

I am one of those people who weigh every day. If I don't track, I lose track. Then if I have to make an adjustment in my eating plan, it is a small adjustment.

First thing every Monday morning. I record it in Myfitnesspal and I move on.

I weigh each morning, but only record my weight weekly. I've found it keeps me focused on my goals for the day. Since I'm only about 7 weeks post-op, my weight has mostly moved downward (yay!), but I don't let it bother me if there's a slight up-tic. I know any "gains" are a temporary thing at this point.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
